The hitch cover is a PIA to remove and reinstall. I would love to see a modified hitch cover that slides into the hitch mount. Can anyone that is more talented than I am configure something like that? Anyone else interested in a mod like this?

Thanks,
Ben

I saw that, but am interested in an option that slides into the hitch mount.
I think that is gonna be hard to do effectively or efficiently unless someone wants to make or design a whole new cover. Which probably doesn't make sense. The reason being is the way the cover attaches...it doesn't slide in...you have to slot it in and swing up as you know. I made the mod in the link and looked at a lot of ways to make it easier because it was driving me nuts. That's the only thing I could come up with that didn't requires modifying the cover itself and was reasonably cheap and effective. But maybe someone has other ideas....

I'm not sure what you're asking for. When you pull the cover off, there's not any extra open space for something to slide into.

It’s clearly not made for ease of use. Frequent removal and reinstall of the hitch cover with those cheap plastic tabs that hold it in place won’t end well. As is it’s a PITA.

Hitch mounting sounds clever but I think will be frustrating in practice with variability of body panels. You could probably rig something up that reused the existing horizontal channel and snapped in with a strong magnet.

Any reason you don’t wanna just keep it off? I put this step on the hitch.

I have THIS product on my Model Y - a magnetic, hitch-mounted cover. It's fantastic.

I hope someone comes out with something similar for the R1s.

I took mine off to tow and have never put it back on. I've never had a truck or SUV that had a hidden hitch before so I'm not used to taking it on and off. I suspect someone will make one if they make them for Tesla owners.

Those are good as a step and also a little extra bumper protection. I had one that I used on my 4Runner to access the roof rack easier.

They are cheap pieces of shit. I just took mine off and put my hitch in with a locking pin....next?

I either have a D-Shackle hitch and lockpin in winter, or ball mount hitch and lockpin in summer. No cover.
