TLDR;
Worth the wait, weight, and cost. They're the highest ROI addition I've made to my R1S so far: they help the family and me enter/exit smoothly multiple times a day, and their unique kick-out feature saved me a torn sidewall on their first trail outing. And I think they look great.
Here...
Does 10 mm look different from 6 mm? I don’t much like how stealth ppf looks on FG but I think I’ve only seen 6 mm in person. I love stealth otherwise and want to find a way to make it work on my FG R1S.
I was convinced matte didn't look good on FG. None of the matte FGs I've seen in person look good to me. But yours looks good. It doesn't seem to change the underlying color as much
Does KAVACA look different from XPEL? If so, why? Because it's 8mm instead of 6mm?
I leave Dynamic Sound Adjustment off. Its effect seems either non-existent or inconsistent at best to me. I simply ride the volume roller. Not ideal, but consistent.
It has definitely been interesting to see how these settings have worked or not worked for different people. What's surprising to me is the range of results. Some love them, some think they're ok, others hate them.
Oh well, I'm glad folks tried them!
Just installed mine on my R1S with my kids' help. Fantastic build quality. They look great and do wonders for stepping up into the vehicle during everyday use. This is a bigger deal than I expected. Looking forward to the protection they'll give me on the trails.
It took me 5 hours, though. I...
Yeah. Live sound is particularly tough because the audience often wants it loud as hell to create that sensory-overload concert feel, which is fun. But you need tremendous power and an extremely capable PA system to reach concert levels AND maintain low levels of distortion. People just say damn...
Unfortunately, no. I haven't done any car audio mods yet, only home theater. Each time I think about modding the car, I decide to put that money into the home system because I have a lot more control over the outcome. And honestly, the home system is so much better than what a car system can...
Yeah. My recommendations wouldn't work well with 3D sound, particularly the Enhanced setting. Enhanced seems to copy a lot of source signal in the 1-6 kHz range and essentially duplicate it in the overhead speakers, making it way too loud. My settings with Enhanced mode on sound bad.
I haven't tried it, but if the app streams HD, it should sound good.
Ultra HD is sort of pointless since the additional resolution would be virtually impossible to hear in a noisy truck cabin that lacks a sufficiently high-quality system.
I've been thinking about this quite a bit. I'm not sure how REW would interpret a measurement with so much noise. I'll have to research how this sort of measurement is typically done. It might involve measuring driving noise separately and then doing some additive analysis. More to come.
So glad to hear that, particularly from a fellow engineer.
Yeah, a lot of spatial information gets recorded but then masked by frequency imbalances in the chain, usually by the room in a home audio scenario, but looks like by the system's tuning in a car scenario. Tuners tend to prioritize the...
That's an interesting question. In theory, if everything other than the physical drivers is the same between the two systems—that should work. If they changed other components, like the amplifiers, to reduce cost, it's hard to say what the result would be. It'd be interesting to hear from a...
Based on my understanding of the Rivian system, those speakers don’t activate until you turn on of one of the surround modes. This is correct behavior and by design.
That’s because surround speakers generally require processing of the original signal to guess what parts of it should go...
I agree that the R1S Elevation leaves a lot to be desired. I’m going to keep chipping away at this to see what options are available aside from replacing the whole system with an aftermarket solution.
The next step is to compare an R1S Elevation to to an R1S Meridian to collect definitive data...
