You have to consider how and where you are going to use it. I live in a warm climate in an area with plenty of chargers, I have a garage with sockets, and I only commute about 30 miles a day on average. I don’t tow or road trip often. The 270 mile range model is more than enough for me. It would...
The materials seemed nicer, softer and more plush. I think the lower plastics were upgraded. The seats are much nicer. I like the Gen 1 interiors fine, but the new trims are definitely a level up.
I was there today in Austin.
I like the upgraded interior more than I expected. At least it works in black. The materials are nice and mesh well together. I wouldn’t pay for a tri to get it, but I would pay $2000 to upgrade a dual to it.
I love the new light bar. It’s sleek, modern, and...
The frunk did look smaller. I doubt that the stroller would fit if it was tight before. I always use it for storing takeout and groceries. It is still fine for those tasks.
I talked to a Rivian rep in Austin today who didn’t know what wheels came on the base model. (He thought the 22 aero wheels were standard on everything.) They don’t seem to be good sources of information if they don’t even know things that are in the online configurator.
I just don’t think Rivian has the R&D budget to do autonomy. It costs a fortune. Even in the Gen 2, I wonder if all of that expensive hardware is just a waste of money that will never be used. They should consider licensing Tesla’s system.
Rivian wasn't even contribution margin positive with the old models. The new ones are supposed to be gross margin positive. They still might not be making money on these with the discounts, but I would wager they are doing better than they did with the original models. Maybe somebody out there...
The new tri is superior to the original quad in just about every way. I suspect most original quad owners would find it to be a perfectly good substitute. The new quad is almost comically over the top. It's almost as if the writers for the Simpsons came up with it. In the end, the new tri and...
I'm glad that you've come around to my way of thinking! Everybody has to consider their own needs and use cases to make a good personal decision on this.
Mine already has teen mode, as in I would never let a teen drive this car. Can you imagine how much damage a teen boy could do with one of these, even if you can limit speed and acceleration?
That said, teen mode would be good for my Model 3.
Definitely. Hell, I use an (industrial grade) 20-amp wall socket and a mobile charger for charging my Teslas, and that’s plenty. Note that that wouldn’t work for a thirsty R1 unless you only drive 20 miles a day and never experience a winter. I tried.
I live in a warm climate, I never road trip in my car, I never tow, I have a garage to charge in, I usually drive about 30 miles a day, and I rarely drive more than 100 miles in a day. Are you saying you would recommend to someone in my position to buy the largest battery one can afford when the...
The suspension had some major hardware changes. I’m guessing that you won’t be able to back port them. If I were the engineering manager for that rework, I wouldn’t have added that extra constraint. If you could back port the changes, I would expect it to be expensive enough that you would...
