My brother in law lives in a city where Rivian just started fulfilling orders. Many others are in the same position. How does that make them greedy? I don’t understand why we have to insult people over this. The margins on the 2nd gen are much better than the 1st gen, so Rivian is probably...
Rivian is claiming that the materials cost is going to be way down and the manufacturing efficiency way up, which will drive gross margin improvement. That was the primary goal of the refresh. If they didn’t end up pulling that off, they are going to go bankrupt or get bought out before they...
I’m guessing the tri motor will be relatively expensive. Most are going to be plenty happy with a cheaper dual. Most buyers aren’t enthusiasts. The dual will be 90+% of volume.
Rivian honored the original pricing only after they dropped the cheaper trim and then tried to increase it, causing people to start canceling orders like crazy. I remember, as I was one of them. Honoring the pricing in the end was a cold hearted business decision. I like RJ and Rivian, so I hope...
I agree. I think a lot of people overestimate how much battery they need. If you don’t tow distances and aren’t road tripping frequently, get the smallest battery you can get. Especially now that we have access to the Tesla network.
I’ve heard people make this argument plenty of times before. I suspect the power is far more likely to get you into trouble than out of it. Just be honest and admit that you like fast cars. You don’t need a BS justification for buying one. Fast cars are fun!
I predicted that the refresh was going to be significant. Many told me I didn’t know what I was talking about. I guess it made perfect sense for Rivian to be offering significant discounts on older vehicles when the new ones were going to be indistinguishable.
Agreed. From where I sit, that’s the worst located handle I’ve had on any of my vehicles. It was always awkward for me to reach. The button will work better for me. It took me a couple of days to get used to it on my Tesla, after which I wondered why somebody hadn’t done it years ago. I’m not...
Not if you live in Waco, Texas, where there still isn’t a service center. They have only very recently started allowing people to order. I don’t expect them to let people sit on the vouchers indefinitely, but it would be nice to have a big enough window to pick a build that you want and to know...
Since you have to take delivery by a certain date, you don’t have control of whether you actually get the discount. What if I order a shop vehicle that is supposed to arrive in 1-6 weeks and it gets delayed past the date? Do I lose the discount? That’s messed up!
The Bosch motors are fine, but the new ones are quieter, more powerful, and have better thermals from the oil cooling. I would also take a new dual over an old quad for these reasons. Even the base dual motor trim makes for a very capable vehicle.
In what way is the Gen 1 a better car, other than being cheaper now? Rivian actually made changes to make it easier to service. Where do you think cost cutting has made it inferior or less robust? With good engineering, you can both improve a product AND make it cheaper.
