I suspect there are plenty who want to upgrade. There are far fewer willing to pay to change. You can certainly go crazy and/or broke trying to always have the shiniest new toy.
I agree with the sentiment that we should all be cheering about these big improvements. The more Rivian sells, the...
I agree that calling this Gen 2 is a bit of a reach, but this is a significant refresh. The engineers put a lot of work into this to make a bunch of nice improvements that add up to make a much better vehicle overall. The old models are still cool, but the new models are a major upgrade from...
I always thought the ride in my R1S was decent. I mainly hated the squat on acceleration and the disconnected steering. The new Model 3 has very good ride quality. Hopefully the new R1S has a similar improvement. I’m definitely going to try it out as soon as I can.
I had an original quad. I would have happily traded it for a new base dual motor. The quad power is overkill for just about everybody, but many of the new features are really nice, particularly the ride and handling improvements. I would miss the range a little, but I don’t road trip much, so I...
I sometimes get carsick when my wife drives. She tends to completely pull off the accelerator when she wants to slow down. She doesn’t get that the braking starts even with a little bit of accelerator. You have to manage it just right to be smooth, but it can be done.
Sales of the quad and tri are going to be very, very low. Most are going to buy the base dual motors, which are still far more capable than most will ever need. People only bought the quad before because it was the only option. I do think that the nicer trims will at some point be pushed down...
The new quad is going to sell is crazy low volumes. In fact, I don’t think they should have even bothered to make it, but I guess they like it as a halo. The base dual is going to be the majority of sales.
Wait for the refresh. The original models are going to seem a little dated once it comes out in a few weeks. You’re going to get better compute, cameras and sensors, a heat pump, and a handful of other improvements. There is no law that says you can’t cost reduce and improve at the same time.
I...
I think the new models are going to have some nice improvements. That said, you probably won’t be able to get one for at least a few weeks. Can you wait that long? What about getting a Highland Model 3? I drove one a while back and was impressed.
I don’t think anybody is expecting a major exterior redesign. That statement still leaves room for plenty of improvements. Why are people so reluctant to believe that Rivian is going to keep improving its vehicles? This is the natural time to do it.
