If you are really doing 200 miles round trip in one day and can’t warm the battery before leaving the ski area yea you might need to charge for 10 minutes on the way home.

I’m pretty sure the reason it took so long is the engineers were in fact working on more important things, like you say the OTA updates. Typical early adopter stuff, be ready for more.
We just use the Fob because we walk by the car constantly (we walk places more than drive) all day with phones in our pockets. We just hang the Fob on a hook in the mudroom and share it, hasn’t been a problem.
