01/19. There is an interactive chart on the "LE Delivery Window" poll results thread that should give you a good idea.
It's based on order date and location. I'm in Seattle so a "priority" location it seems. I would be SHOCKED to see my R1S before September though.
Honestly I think it's going to be a real challenge for the first few years. They don't have many service centers and it's going to require specialized knowledge. You can already see from how long it's taken to address simple issues, ie.. the tonneau cover being a great example, that it'll be...
I've also been pushing them not to allow hybrids access and save it only for fully electric. They said that will be the case but we'll see.
Every time I go to Stevens there are hybrids on all of the chargers. Super annoying.
I've seen results of a 5% to 16% range loss with the roof box from the Taycan forums. Hard to say for the Rivian, though, as it's a bit unique in having a less aerodynamic shape than most current EVs. I don't know whether that will result in a larger or smaller impact. I know some Tesla forums...
Also quick tip on ski resort EV charging.. good luck!! Many resorts have them but it's exactly as much of a shitshow as you'd expect. Never, ever rely on charging AT a ski resort (unless it's a reserved spot attached to lodging for example, even then..).
Trucks parked at them, hybrids...
I have snow tires on, yes! I don't run a roofbox but I don't think it will make a huge difference. You'll have more weight than I do as well with the family but there's still a lot of wiggle room there.
The route to Crystal is pretty much the same. Either I'm chilling at 15-30 mph or pushing...
You should 100% be able to make the trip. I can make that trip easily in my Taycan and while yes, the R1S will be much less efficient and doesn't have a heat pump.. it also has 45+ more kWh of battery.
The return trip isn't the issue. You will end up with excellent efficiency.. the battery...
@Denver_Paulie nailed it. My experience mostly mirrors his.
You can sit and plan based on weather, getting the battery to the perfect temperature, choosing the highest kw supercharger all you want.. sometimes that charger is randomly going to sit you at 80 kW and that's what you're going to...
I doubt you'll see anything on a preorder car that isn't also updated to earlier cars. Once they finish preorders they'll likely make upgrades that can't be patched.
The interesting thing to me will be how the seats hold up over time. Some of the "Vegan leather" seats really don't hold up well, both in appearance and comfort.
PPF is very reliant on the installer. Badly installed PPF can look terrible and peel over time. Especially given that the R1T/R1S is a car they likely will have no experience with you could end up with a poor job. The idea is for PPF to be as invisible as possible but you can always notice it a...
@mkg3 The delivery windows are estimates that were sent out en masse. It's not "your car will absolutely be here in this window". Rivian has already had massive delays and until they start actually hitting deadlines there is no real reason to believe any delivery estimates.
Supply chain issues...
I've been really happy just using a ceramic coating. I have Kenzo ceramic on my Taycan, no PPF, and it has held up really well. I'm over 20k miles in, with a surprising amount of bad condition driving (ie.. regular trips down roads to hikes, skiing, etc..) and no scratches.
No, ceramic doesn't...
I think the 15k for 2022 is more reasonable.
There simply will be delays due to the insane logistics of the world today. All it takes is one shipment of parts to show up with a quality issue to massively set back production.
As @DeafPug mentions, if you are solely buying the car to resell it and want to claim the tax credit there may be issues. Probably not but possibly.
There's also the much more likely outcome that such behavior gets you "blacklisted" with Rivian. It's common practice in the car industry to...
I think the key point is if you're relying on a tax credit to purchase a Rivian, you should really rethink it. Anything could happen over the next year with EV tax credits and there's no guarantee it'll be available come tax time. I'd probably still try to keep the MSRP below $80k just in case...
