*edit to clarify* The binding contract is for the state you purchase the vehicle. The IRS is obligated to honor that state's definition of a binding contract, which is usually less than the IRS guidance. Check your state. This is why they issued GUIDANCE and not a binding rule.
In Illinois...
If you signed the "binding agreement" BEFORE today you're good whenever you receive your vehicle. The only way that changes is if Rivian does something that makes the IRS label their agreement as non binding, in which case all Rivian buyers would be subject to the new rules.
Ie.. if Rivian...
To the above, what do you mean? My Taycan turns on when I walk up without any button presses, key in pocket, and everything is ready to go, ac running, music on, etc when I sit down. I can check status from the app live. No vampire drain. The EV6 I tried was the same.
Not sure why yall would...
I personally think Launch Green is okay, not a big fan of Limestone, and find Blue/Red/Forest to be the 3 colors that really make the Rivian pop. It looks much more regular in the other colors (yellow is the only one I haven't seen in person).
This is bizarre reasoning.
The R1S is probably delayed because of part shortage or an issue with the tailgate. The idea they'd be comfortable releasing the R1T with bugs but not the R1S with the same bugs is nonsensical.
It's also going to take YEARS, not weeks or months, to work out these...
It's just marketing.
The tax loophole can't suddenly be closed, it's an existing rule. If you sign a binding agreement with any dollar amount nonrefundable you are held to the tax law the moment you sign. It's goofy how it works, but that's the way it works.
They know this, so know they'll...
This idea that you should "be patient" and "poor automakers need time to fix it!" is a load of bull.
Sell cars that work properly. If they don't, drop everything to fix it while actively communicating & offering solutions to customers inconveniences.
Whether this is a normal happening or not...
Considering a battery replacement for every EV on the market is billed at over 30% of the entire vehicle MSRP.. NO.
It makes more sense to buy a new car.
Worth noting is after consulting with my finance guy he DOES believe this will get you the tax credit, if you sign before the president does. He doesn't think they can possibly close the tax loophole, as it's the same loophole that effects a number of credits.
Sign it TODAY.
If you're not going to put over 60k miles before 2027, it's an odd vehicle to buy IMO.
It's a good warranty but deciding on a car like this because of a warranty is bizarre.
To be clear, the material sourcing aspect of this will almost certainly be delayed by years. This is very common maneuvering and the exact same process has happened for other imports.
The income and vehicle cost are the only short term concerns. I'd be SHOCKED if material sourcing requirements...
I really, really doubt these will hold any water whatsoever with the IRS. It's a good marketing move but thinking the IRS will accept a "binding purchase agreement" that doesn't include a VIN is pretty far fetched.
I imagine for the IRS it will be simple: the date you have a VIN is the date the...
This is a cute attempt by Fisker but there's no way the IRS will view a pre-order waitlist spot as a binding PO. If your vehicle doesn't have a VIN, it's not a "binding purchase agreement". This would only work if your car was already BUILT and you were just waiting for delivery.
The IRS will...
If you need the $7,500 tax rebate to buy the Rivian, you can't afford it. Sorry, but it's just a fact.
Look at something that's more in your price range vs relying on something that has nothing to do with Rivian.
If this is their 3rd vehicle I'd start trending to Rivian being a short term company.
They need to make a sedan or compact SUV. Period. They'd be cannibalizing their own sales with this.
