I’ve definitely had my fair share of one-off quirks that resolved with a infotainment reset, too. No Wi-fi hotspot, no terrain showing on navigation, etc. Plus a few hard resets, like when only the drivers side AC would not blow cold air.
Adventurous, indeed!
Candidly, I have become accustomed to auto wipers over the past decade and enjoy that feature, so turning it off is unacceptable to me (that’s just me, though). Also, doesn’t explain why outdoor only or the rear wiper.
Rear hatch does this on perfectly level ground as well as inclines.
I’m not...
Interesting. Mine is literally every start-up outside. I thought at first maybe it was detecting pollen build-up or something and engaging the auto wipers. If I park in a garage or other covered parking, it doesn't do it.
Then there's the rear wiper - which is a new one for me...
Appreciate the responses.
So, the front wiper going on at every start - by "normal operation" are you saying it's your understanding that every Rivian does this? And that it's intentional?
As for the cargo hatch, it has happened both on flat and sloped ground.
Another thing about these...
Almost daily I’ll have a new minor quirk with my R1S. I assume most other owners do, too. Often these small annoyances do not rise to posting here or searching for answers, and many such quirks come and go.
Curious if anyone has experienced the same quirks, if they’re really issues the service...
This is a great question. I get the little thermometer showing up in the app with a message that the interior is hot, and have seen it as high as 140, but I have never (to my knowledge) seen or heard the HVAC kick on nor gotten the protection verbiage in the app.
Power outlet update is the most exciting, unfortunately.
“You can now choose to have power outlets turn on automatically when you enter the vehicle and turn off after you exit. Go to the Energy > Outlets on the center display and select Auto.”

I had a similar issue. This is from my service visit:
Concern:
- front trunk will not close. It’s completely empty. Hood comes down then bounces right back up. System says “object detected”. Have to close it manually by hand.
Cause:
- Inspected the hood and found that the push clips on the...
Appears it does require watch OS 10 or later. Couldn’t get it to download to older watch.
And yes, it appears the Beta is now full (thanks to this thread I’m sure!)
I had the drivers side do this (weird, I know). Hard reset seemed to fix it. Had put in service request but mobile was not an option for me so cancelled it. Been fine since.
I had a similar experience. Shared mine here.
My best guess is you need both the 12v and HV batteries replaced, it will take a few days, and you will not be given a satisfactory explanation as to why it happened.
Sorry you’re having to deal with this, and best of luck!
Was there a change in the roof glass of the R1S at some point prior to Gen2? Or at least its heat-blocking capabilities? My 2024 isn’t bad at all compared to other cars I own, and I’m in the south.
Wow. I think I’m more confused on my Rivian braking than ever.
I’ve seen both sides of these points:
1. High regen setting gets best efficiency/Low regen setting gets best efficiency (and even a mix of both depending on city versus highway)
2. Blended brake setting is a good thing/blended...
I have tried so so many…
Unfortunately if you want a case on your phone that can wirelessly charge AND have a wallet you either need the folio style (where the wallet folds over the front of the case), or a detachable magnetic wallet.
While I don’t love it, I went with the detachable magnetic...
