I like this idea. I would use my apple watch. Waakey, a third party watch as a key solution exists now. I wonder if this would work. When Rivian releases their watch solution I’d definitely use MFD in this case.

Why did you need to open the app to approve the MFD request? I have not tried the backup PIN option but I figured it would not be as easy as entering a PIN on my wife’s Tesla. It’s not the same approach. Tesla’s PIN is based on what you know and not time-based and not a random generated PIN...

I turn off the Pin in this case too…on my wife’s Tesla. I don’t want to share the pin.

Prior to the update I noticed my Gen 1 R1S sleep/wake cycles were longer than usual, just yesterday, 19/20hours each! I updated around 7:30PM. After 11PM the cycles reduced to 13, 8, and now 6hrs.

If you have biometrics unabled, you shouldn’t have to unlock your phone. Just look at it, press and hold or some say “hard press“ the prompt, and it should request you to approve or deny.

The download and install seemed a bit faster. I did not time it exactly but it wasn’t 50 mins, more like 35. Also, I noticed when I open the mobile app and close it I no longer receive this popup. I think this started before the update.

No, someone else with an enabled device turns MFD off and then use your key card or fob to start the vehicle. Your keyfob and card are both MFD enabled as well so it needs to be turned off.

I tried it just now and it works well. With your phone locked you’ll get a push notification. If you press and hold that notification, a pop-up will appear to allow or deny. No need to unlock your phone, if you have biometrics enabled.

Organizations provide an override if you meet various conditions to verify your identity or a self service reset portal. You can also setup multiple devices, your spouses phone for example. All these require a mobile device to call/text someone to disable MFD or reset. The MFA risks we talk...

The way Rivian implemented this definitely will not work. If you lose your phone, your shit out of luck. Even if you have your key card or keyfob, you’re still shit out of luck because you need your phone if you have MFD enabled.

Yes, it’s one of the better updates. I thought someone mentioned that it started rolling out already. Usually when it does, you’ll see the “installing now” or “downloading” threads so I don’t think it’s really hit the masses yet. I’m guessing it will start rolling out to the masses tomorrow...
