I stopped using it but when I was I used my watch to start the vehicle and donāt recall requiring my phone be unlocked first. Maybe thereās a setting?
I havenāt had any issues since Dec ā23 when I purchased my R1S until yesterday when my seat didnāt return to position and I was prompted to preform a calibration. I did so just now and it seems to be back to normal.

Iām not promoting Carplay at all but saw the write up and thought Iād share it for others who have interest. It appears to me that feedback might sway Rivianās position.
Hereās your chance to provide your feedback.
Rivian has been pretty clear from day one: theyāre not planning to support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Their position? The in-vehicle experience is better when itās built from the ground up, not handed off to third-party software. And honestly...
I no longer have MFD enabled but while I did, I did not experience this. It worked pretty well for me and since I have an Apple watch the push notification appeared on my watch where it allowed me to approve to drive. You should touch base with Rivian.

Of course it wonāt work without the phone. We donāt have watch key support from Rivian, but WaaK/WatchMyRivian are third-party watch solutions that can be configured as keys, without your phone.
I always have my phone anyway so if I wanted to use this feature I now know I donāt need to pull out.
I received and responded to the push notification on my watch and it works. I didnāt need to use my phone. I probably didnāt pay attention the first time because I was so focused on my phone.
