Looks like you are expecting something like your BMW or Land Rover. However, those are "mall crawlers" built to optimize the experience of taking the family to the mall. The suspension, interior, features, etc. are tuned to the mall experience.

The "destination fee" is mandated by law. The auto dealer mob paid legislators to put this in place so that some dealers wouldn't have an advantage over others by being closer to the factory, etc.
(I picked up my Tesla at the Fremont factory and had to pay the destination fee.)

The main advantage is that it goes anywhere and I can take it anywhere and I don't have to worry about it.
It is old and worn out so might die but has been remarkably reliable.
I'll have to replace it someday (I have an R1S reservation) but until then I'm happy.
