  1. Canceled my R1S order :-(

Looks like you are expecting something like your BMW or Land Rover. However, those are "mall crawlers" built to optimize the experience of taking the family to the mall. The suspension, interior, features, etc. are tuned to the mall experience. Rivian is a "rock crawler" which has suspension...
  2. Outrageous Insurance Offer 36% mark up

Why not? There are no good insurance companies. They will all try to screw you if you make a claim. Your only protection is the contract.
  3. Outrageous Insurance Offer 36% mark up

It pays to shop around. Different insurance companies have different pricing models. Get at least 10 bids. You'll find a good one.
  4. SC Pickup Avoids $1k delivery fee? Or Home delivery is an extra $1k now?

The "destination fee" is mandated by law. The auto dealer mob paid legislators to put this in place so that some dealers wouldn't have an advantage over others by being closer to the factory, etc. (I picked up my Tesla at the Fremont factory and had to pay the destination fee.)
  5. How Much it Cost to Drive a Rivian 3,000 Miles Compared to a Midsize Gas Pickup Truck Cents Per Mile

I really hated going to the dealer four times a year for "routine maintenance". In addition to the cost, it burns half a day each time.
  6. Stop being a slave to the pump. What I realized driving a V8 loaner.

Yes. We are all slaves to the capitalists but there are degrees of slavery.
  7. Electric cars have a road trip problem, even for the secretary of energy

Never had a problem on Tesla road trips. Article should have emphasized that these are nonTesla problems.
  8. Stop being a slave to the pump. What I realized driving a V8 loaner.

I started installing solar PV 8 years ago and now have 5 arrays which provide most of the power for the three houses on our property. All of the solar arrays have paid for themselves as of last year so most of my electricity is free (including charging a Tesla and a Rivian). We have net metering...
  9. Electric Rates (Boston)

The Rivian R1S is much larger than the Volvo so no comparison.
  10. Stop being a slave to the pump. What I realized driving a V8 loaner.

What makes you think electricity rates will "only continue to rise" when the cost of electricity from renewables continues to fall?
  11. Electric Rates (Boston)

So... You're about 13 cents a mile for electricity. Large SUV gets 15 mi/gal so gas at $4.50 gal is 30 cents a mile.
  12. Stop being a slave to the pump. What I realized driving a V8 loaner.

Solar and wind are cheaper now and cost will continue to drop as more installed. OTOH, oil will stay high.
  13. Two old British guys talking about actual utility vehicles

The main advantage is that it goes anywhere and I can take it anywhere and I don't have to worry about it. It is old and worn out so might die but has been remarkably reliable. I'll have to replace it someday (I have an R1S reservation) but until then I'm happy.
  14. UAW scores - US offers $12 billion to auto makers, suppliers for advanced vehicles

Clueless, corrupt auto corporations get this money, not the union.
  15. Two old British guys talking about actual utility vehicles

By these measures, my 2000 Land Rover Discovery 2 is perfect! And it's paid for....
