I would be okay with adding it to my phone plan like tethering is now. Then, you get a set amount of high speed data each month, and it reduces to dial-up speed after that. Oh the hilarious scenarios while waiting for the data to download and pixelated screens ?.

I think the OP is looking to take a calculated risk based on the information they can gather and the "wisdom of crowds". In other words, the question is: "What are the risks I'm taking?" and not "Tell me why I shouldn't." That distinction is important.
