I've never had an RV but interested in getting one, so I'm no expert. But RV parks to me just seem gross. The appealing thing about an e-trailer to me is the idea you can take it off grid for a few days. If you are just going to RV parks with power, then why even bother paying for a huge battery...
Looks cool and want one, but my biggest concern with these electric trailers is that I imagine it being very difficult to charge on the road. While it will enable overall range increase for your tow vehicle, it will do so by depleting its own battery, which will require a recharge. It’s hard...
I've seen zero % and zero miles lost over the last 24 hours. I had minimal % (about 1% per day) before the last update, so was not expecting any impact with this last update. Need more time to evaluate but so far looking really good!
yikes. yes, Rivian only sells parts to certified shops. I had a headlight cracked and because it was due to a collision, they said they wouldn't repair it or sell me a headlight and that my only option was Rivian certified. Your insurance can't complain about not using their shop. They may try...
I find it hard to believe that it wakes itself up every 3 hours. My assumption is it’s their phones waking it up frequently. Unless all phones setup as keys are off or in airplane mode (to ensure Bluetooth is actually off), my bet is phone. The range on PAAK is crazy far and super sensitive. If...
Huge bills for what appears to be minor damage seems to be pretty consistent for Rivians. Hell I paid (well i guess the other guy’s insurance paid) $6.5K for what was basically a broken headlight. So at this point, 14k for that doesn’t shock me.
That's where home assistant or similar comes in handy. Waking up the R1 and checking the screens is going to cost you about 0.1% (~120 watts) and skew your results. What I did find is if I jump in the truck after automatically wakes up it doesn't cost me anything significant and will still go...
I think 0.6% is about 0.8kWh, so not that far off from 1.2kWh. That said, another thing I should have added is my R1 is not warming up the battery (at least from what I can tell). My battery temp is about the same as the ambient air temp. I'm in SoCal and it's been pretty warm past couple weeks...
TLDR - forget about messing with R1 settings, it doesn't do what you think it does and has little to no impact on drain (other than the obvious like gear guard, auto unlock off). Focus on your phone and key fob and make sure they don't wake up your R1 all day. That said, you won't get better...
I did look at getting a used BMW i3 as a 3rd townie/backup car. I leased an i3 years ago and thought it was great. You can pick one up on the used market for $15k or less. Ultimately, I don't have the space for an extra car and the Model Y is super-efficient as a commuter. I can get about 2.25X...
I have a Galaxy S22+ and can confirm that with Bluetooth off, I can walk up to the truck, and it goes from "Sleep" to "Standby" (can see from home assistant) and unlocks. Super strange. I can only assume off isn't off, but I see nothing in my settings that would allow me to do anything different.
I did this trip recently, but in the opposite direction (20” AT wheels). The truck said I couldn’t make it from Quartzite at ~95% charge to Los Angeles, but miles wise I felt I could make it. Ultimately it wasn’t worth the stress so I did add about 25% battery along the way. However, when I got...
"The portable battery may charge a user device or the vehicle itself" well that’s super interesting. How exactly would it charge the vehicle itself? Maybe as a back up for the 12V battery? Or just maybe random nonsense….
The other reason why I'd recommend doing a 5-tire rotation is it's a lot easier and safer if you are doing it yourself. Doing that rearward cross pattern with 4 tires would be super hard without the entire car off the ground. I can do my 5-tire rotation in under and hour.
When you got close to home, you totally considered just driving around the neighborhood for an hour didnt you? ;)
Great write up. Would love to do a lot of this someday.
