  1. R1S spotted off-road getting muddy in Mesa, CO

I figured they would still be in the area; a friend spotted them driving through Grand Junction again this morning.
  2. Help Me Decide EV Tires

This is why you go with 21's on your Rivian; so that like our bmw i3 you don't have to make a choice because you don't have a choice in tires! Our car now has about 75k on it and due for its second set of tires, the Bridgestone ecopia ep500.
  3. Real Rivian Photos & Videos

Maybe they were testing drift mode on the way to ride the new Palisade plunge trail! Lands end road is twisty and there actually is a hill climb race up it, but the road isn't a big deal if you drive up it normally.

That short clip is a great comparison of an R1S next to the tacoma.
  5. Is This A Mall Cruiser…?

I don't understand why anyone thinks the gear tunnel or frunk would be any less sealed or appropriate than the interior of the vehicle (or an old school trunk) for storing food and other 'smelly' things. We camped down in Ouray this weekend and had a bear in our camp last night at 3 am. With...
  6. Real Rivian Photos & Videos

There will be a difference between what the software commands and what the wheels are doing if traction changes rapidly. If a wheel slips like on the climb in the video there will always be some delay since the slip needs to be detected, then power needs to be reduced from the spinning wheel...
  7. Real Rivian Photos & Videos

Not having driveline windup will be nice; I always cringe a bit when having to make a sharp turn on solid rock while in four wheel drive (and even more when the lockers haven't been able to disengage). Four motors is a step up from two motors and relying on traction control for right/left...
  8. Real Rivian Photos & Videos

How long ago so you think that was filmed; now I want to go to Moab this weekend instead of the mountains to see if they are still out there! This time of year out there is a good test of hot weather plus low speed thermal buildup. I can't place which trail that climb is on, but there are a...

I stopped by the lodge this weekend to see if they were going to put in a charging station; they said they didn't receive the grant they applied for but the forest service did get a grant, so there may be a charger coming to the grand mesa visitor center just down the road SOON!
  10. Pull through charging stations when towing camper

At least with the charge port at the front of the vehicle you may be able to pull into a parking spot style charger with the trailer hooked up, as long as it won't block too much of the parking lot.
  11. Rivian payload / towing capacity and trailer brake controller

I'm glad I'm only 90 miles from Moab! Frontal area is a huge factor; our previous trailer was a trailmanor 3326 which was about the same weight as our current trailer, but the full height trailer makes a huge difference on the highway. I've thought about experimenting with making a radiused...
  12. Rivian payload / towing capacity and trailer brake controller

We just finished a 2500 mile trip towing our 5000lb brick of a travel trailer (jayco 22bhm with baja package) with a v6 4runner. We only went over 150 miles before refueling a couple times because we (or the kids) usually needed a break before then. Limited power meant usually traveling at...

We love getting pie at the grand mesa lodge after cross country skiing! I would be out looking for them if we weren't out of town this week. Edit: I meant mesa lakes lodge is where we usually stop, such a cool massive log structure!
  14. Offroading an EV

I won't get rid of my 4runner if I get an R1S since it is fairly built up on 35" tires (and then it can become more of a trail toy), but I also won't be worried about taking the R1S on the more popular moderate 4x4 routes in Colorado and Utah. I've even taken our bmw i3 down some mild double...
  15. Any pictures of Rivian underside / undercarriage?

My guess would be that the battery area between the frame rails will be well protected regardless but the underside of the body outside of the frame rails and forward of the front tires/behind the rear tires will be thinner material, primarily to reduce wind drag but the off-road package would...
  16. Truck campers / teardrop trailers / Rivian-Yakima tent

I agree with going the route of a trailer with all its facilities readily available. Having dealt with too many windy nights in the desert, I would lean away from a trailer that has pop-up or out fabric portions. Also it is so nice to be able to pull over and step into the trailer for lunch or...
  17. The Competition Spotted - GMC Hummer EV

I saw two of the hummers driving through downtown Grand Junction today, looked just like ones that had been in Moab.
  18. Off Roading Question:

My friend used to have an LR3 and I led him around hells revenge trail in Moab with my 4runner. I was impressed with how well it did while managing to avoid scraping the bumpers on the abrupt climbs and descents, although he did avoid the more serious obstacles. For trails like that and in the...
  19. Wish List - Rivian Adventure Network (RAN) locations

I've used the rocky mountain power station before and it's great to have that available, but it will still take a while to fill a large capacity battery. Moab gets millions of visitors per year to do so many different things (visiting arches/canyonlands national parks, biking, rafting, hiking...
  20. Wish List - Rivian Adventure Network (RAN) locations

I live in Grand Junction Colorado and we like to mountain bike, boondock camp and drive trails around Colorado and eastern Utah. 1. I see a big need for dc fast chargers in Moab as well as some more level 2 chargers. We go out there to mountain bike, drive trails and camp, usually on blm land a...
