  1. Four Electric Pickup Trucks Drove Coast-To-Coast. Here's How They Stack Up

Agreed. I have no interest in cannonballing a cross-country road trip, so all they did was convince me that the CT isn't even worthy of considering. If they had to do all of this and they still didn't come in many hours ahead, it's worse than I'd imagined. Based on these results, each of the...
  2. R1T Rally Mode - Zion - Vegas - 1,605 Mile Trip - 886 kWh - $312

There's a 62 kW CCS1 charger bank in Kanab. It's not wonderful, and regularly tops out around 35-50 kW, but it's something.
  3. Experience shopping for an EV9 vs R1S - Update

This is one of the strongest reasons we're still hoping Rivian convinces us to stay with them. We traded a Tacoma for a Tundra and regretted it. It was unwieldy and we ended up with a Tacoma again for various reasons, not least of which was size.
  4. Traded in my R1T for an F150 Lightning

It seems it also applies to the vehicles that are in the shop and (presumably) already built.
  5. Traded in my R1T for an F150 Lightning

Not according to Rivian's website. When does my deposit become non-refundable? For customers in the United States, your vehicle deposit will become non-refundable after you confirm your vehicle order. This confirmation is your signal to Rivian to schedule production of your configured Rivian...
  6. Experience shopping for an EV9 vs R1S - Update

I mostly agree. However, I'm in the mindset of going all electric, and there are two options for me to accomplish that: Lightning or R1T. IMO, there aren't any other BEV pickups that are even worth considering. I was hoping the Fisker Atlas would be promising, but I'm spooked away from Fisker...
  7. Experience shopping for an EV9 vs R1S - Update

Wow, 45 days is an eternity! This sounds like an excuse on Rivian's part not to change when they'll make the offer. The Carvana offer on my Tacoma is good for 2 weeks, so I may not get what they offered when (now...if) we finally pick up the R1T, but I know what ballpark it'll be. And it didn't...
  8. Experience shopping for an EV9 vs R1S - Update

I am actively being courted by Ford to buy a Lightning and am in limbo with the Rivian process. I could pick up a Lightning today for $20k less than the R1T (okay, $19k with the non-refundable deposit I already put down on the R1T). Sure, it can be argued that the R1T is a better vehicle, and I...
  9. Best Color to Not Show Dirt

We've owned a lot of vehicles in many different colors, and always have taken them offroad and gotten them dirty. Of the available Rivian colors, my opinion is: Best: Limestone & LA Silver Good: Glacier White Okay: Forest Green Meh: Rivian Blue, Red Canyon Bad: El Cap Granite, Midnight.
  10. Need Advice on getting quad vs. dual

As I understand it, if you care about drive modes and suspension height options, you get more with the quad motor option. But I'm just reading from the (possibly out-of-date?) website rather than speaking from any experience...
  11. 4500 mile towing journey - Portland to Tucson and back; with side trips.

Fantastic write-up! Thanks! The South Rim of the Grand Canyon is at about 2440 meters (8,000 ft) elevation, so your truck missed something on the way there.
  12. Traded in my R1T for an F150 Lightning

We just decided yesterday to order the R1T and Ford called us making an offer on a Lightning that's so good the $1,000 non-refundable deposit on the R1T is becoming just background noise in the decision. We think we're sticking with the R1T, but gosh is the price on a Lightning looking good...
  13. Experience shopping for an EV9 vs R1S - Update

As a new Rivian customer (well, returning--had a reservation a couple of years ago, but went with the Mustang Mach-E instead), I have to agree. The purchasing process isn't well-organized and which steps are supposed to happen in which order is not only poorly-communicated, it's poorly...
  14. Ford Pulling Maverick and Broco EVs

I don't think this is good for anyone, including Rivian. A larger market overall is better for the startups than (what appears to some to be) a shrinking market.
  15. Just pressed the "Order" button! :O

Okay! That was quicker than I'd expected. Pick-up will be available as soon as 19 March. So, no shake-down trip to Houston, but that's fine. We have another trip to TX in April and we'll take the truck then.
  16. Just pressed the "Order" button! :O

We would have preferred the Forest Green, but there weren't any in our shop. I might get it wrapped...
  17. Just pressed the "Order" button! :O

The process has gotten off to a teensy-bit of an inauspicious start. It's really minor and just website software and UX rather than anything important. The currently-active steps to complete my order include selecting insurance: either bringing my own or getting a quote from Rivian. To do my...
  18. Just pressed the "Order" button! :O

I don't suppose there's any hope the truck will be here (northern AZ) by 8 March, is there? I have a trip to Houston and would love to take it instead of flying.
  19. Just pressed the "Order" button! :O

Thanks for the comment! The smaller bed coupled with no cap/shell is one of our biggest concerns. But I think the gear tunnel, the frunk, and possibly a tonneau cover will provide what we need for camping/adventure carrying capacity. I have hope that the gear tunnel can accommodate our...
