If you are concerned with snow, all of the stock rivian tires suck and are especially bad if slippery. But you have a few 3rd party snow tire choices with the 20" rim size, and none with the others. That might help inform your decision.
Today I got stuck in my driveway for several hours. The 20s are OK in deep/fresh snow but no good for hard/slippery surfaces. So I ran for my 21" chains and socks to put them to the test.
For the record, there is no hope of getting the 21" chains on the 20s, they just won't stretch around the...
Just to confirm, I too payed $6k for new 20s and had to pay service to swap them, but it was more about labor for mounting and swapping wheels, not reconfiguration.
Speaking with my always awesome service advisor, yes the Rivian engineers in california have to remotely reconfigure the truck, and...
Insurance in mass covers glass replacement in any way you want. With such a new car no one else is going to be familiar with it, so unless you want to be the guinea pig for someone, I certainly would prefer going to the service center.
Frankly I recommend always going to dealers for glass...
Just to update, after months of begging Rivian finally started selling 20" packages, so I bit the large bullet and now have a lot less anxiety for the winter.
I will be applying this RainX Plastic Water Repellent for the winter. I mean this problem isn't unique to Rivian as most cars have LEDs and plastic lenses, but I'm sure it's worse with a vertical light.
Had my service appointment today at the Chelsea service center, and there is all this new construction. I asked and they confirmed Rivian Level 3 chargers are coming soon!
Well this just arrived on Saturday, as my wife surprised me for our anniversary... it's my first forey into pellets.
...that's adding to my gas grill, charcoal grill, and upright charcoal drum smoker which I adore.
The drum smoker is kind of the opposite/zero temp control but adds incredible...
Blue is the best of all of those! Definitely visit Chelsea a few times to see the various colors in person, but I am SO impressed with rivian blue and yet it seem so rare.
Yes a lot of it was very useful. Not only did they change the code, but they removed a lot of that useful data from the app. We really need to bribe an engineer to put it all back the way it was if anything :)
So with no apparent snow tire solution and winter approaching quickly, I decided to go with chains and wheel socks to at least hold me over till next season where hopefully a tire option becomes available.
These are not a great solution because they can only be used below 30mph, have a chance...
I have a 60A TeslaTap Mini and love it. I pair it with my Tesla mobile charger and large assortment of adapters that I keep in the truck so I can charge anywhere. Yes it's extremely tight but works great. Yes it's great to have for all those retail locations that have tesla destination chargers...
Yes, there is an OBD port, but it provides 12v and locked down ethernet, not J1939 or CAN that most OBD devices need. We are working on doing something with it
Not sure why you haven't got straight answers but yes, you can reduce the current in the truck in the energy app on the center screen, and I often do so quickly after plugging in before it ramps up. Just be aware it is not the best at remembering your last setting so you would need to do this...
I love this and it looks great!
I would just like to throw in a request for a custom cooler for the gear tunnel as well. I do cram an alpicool in there at an angle, but a custom shape and longer design would have much more storage. And it doesn't get as hot in there as the frunk.
He said there was nothing available that met all the ratings for the 20s, but I too found options on tire rack a few weeks ago. Unless they've disappeared or maybe they only have Nokian. Regardless, Rivian won't sell rims, so now I guess I'm going to get some chains.
Bad news, apparently there are basically no Rivian snow tire options available anywhere, for any size.
I finally stopped in my local Nokian distributor, Williams tire, to ask if they could order the 275/50-21 Hakkas, and they said none are actually available, and they are not allowed to install...
