Just sharing my experience.
Yesterday my R1S needed service. The drivers door handle was not working properly, light and card reader malfunctioning. Additionally the last software update refused to install on my vehicle. I contact service, got an appointment within 3 days of inquiring...
Everyone has their own experience. While service was rough in the first 18 months the last 20 have been amazing. If I need service they are responsive and get the issue resolved. contacting the center isn't tough since it is the 800 number for Rivian and they get to the center for me...
As others have stated the R1T is unique for rivian in how the body panels are structured. The R1S and R2 don't have the same problems.
Funny someone mentioned the costs of insurance, mine just dropped by about 15% upon renewal .
When Rivian puts Lidar in the R2 I am sure it will hit the R1 as well. The question is going to be getting a loaded R2 or a entry R1, if they have similar Autonomy features.
I am sure there are people who are looking at this but just as many thinking of staying because of the size and needs. R2 is very compelling but right now I need the size of the R1S.

What about it sucks? I have used it all the time and it has only gotten better after each release. I am not really there with turn by turn 'FSD' but for the highway and putzing around town it is fantastic.
Mine is high on the right side of the rear view mirror, using a suction cupped holder. It worked 75% of the time. Doesn't really matter though since 99% of the ones I pass through read the license plate as well so if it doesn't hit the transponder it gets the rear plate.
