  1. Clean Vehicle Seller Report

The answer is simple: It is for anyone who took delivery in 2023, without the 2022 ā€œbinding agreementā€, and who intends to claim a 2023 tax credit. The price must be below $80,000, not including destination and delivery charges, to qualify. Example: I purchased a silver R1T dual motor in...
  2. Dual Motor Lag

My Dual motor doesn’t have any lag, I am aware of the rear lock and Yes you can hear it. It sounds similar to my Audi e-tron, which has a similar dual motor setup, except it disengages the front and defaults to rear drive instead of vice versa with the Rivian. Both have locking mechanisms and...
  3. Dual Motor Lag

I don’t know if it’s a ā€œfactā€ that a quad in Conserve gets the same efficiency as a dual motor. Someone posted it here, but that’s not a ā€œfactā€. I have an R1T dual motor, 6500 miles on it. Tell me what my efficiency is.
  4. Is Rivian's efficiency / estimated range accurate? - R1T Dual Motor

Our hand calculation was lower, yet surprisingly close to the Rivian odometer. We got 2.02 versus 2.11 on the odo. A 5% or less difference in the case of this trip. We used the Rivian navigation for most of the trip and maybe there a connection.
  5. Is Rivian's efficiency / estimated range accurate? - R1T Dual Motor

Maybe there is indeed something wrong. Any chance this is because it is winter time? I got my DM in mild fall weather. The first pic on page 1 shows 2.6 or better then. Fast forward to the latest trip in cold weather that I posted and you see I’m struggling to maintain 2.0 right now. That...
  6. Is Rivian's efficiency / estimated range accurate? - R1T Dual Motor

A service appointment to complain? You can do that over the phone. Service can’t fix low efficiency. I have been to Rivian service centers in 3 cities and I learned something from talking to them: The reason wait times are long is because of people who came in to talk about their car.
  7. Is Rivian's efficiency / estimated range accurate? - R1T Dual Motor

I’m the OP and here are 2 updated data points. The first is the readout from a December road trip in my dual motor, 4200 miles in 4 weeks. Efficiency was at 2.28 but the final 3 day trip home from the Oregon coast to Denver, most of it at high speed in freezing conditions, took a toll. Note I...
  8. Preconditioning - Paying Twice?

Yep, both the front and rear motors in my DM will heat up to about 135 deg F. This heats the coolant oil, which is then used to heat the battery. The motors do not have to be spinning for this to happen. The windings are in an oil bath, which runs even at a standstill. The motors heat up and...
  9. Preconditioning - Paying Twice?

I am on a road trip in the mountain west right now after traveling for 4 weeks in my 2023 dual motor R1T (0268XX). I have seen the ā€œPreparing Batteryā€ message many times. My experience may not be typical, being a DM. Mine does preconditioning cooling after I have been either 1. DC fast charging...
  10. Regeneration Concerns

I am on a long road trip currently and I have experienced it every day. It kicks in at about the same time on a given hill, regardless. And then you take off downhill and have to use the brake pedal. No other EV does this. It’s lame. At lower states of charge below 50%, the reduction in braking...
  11. Regeneration Concerns

I wasn't referring to anyone specific but my gosh that’s a lot of words. All to say the inverter overheats. The point: No legacy carmaker has put out a higher end EV that overheats on mountainous downhill grades in this manner. This flaw is a real miss for Rivian.
  12. Regeneration Concerns

Do an internet search. If you can’t find it quickly look for the term Rapidgate. There are some videos that are worth watching. The problem can be reproduced as follows: Find a steep uphill grade and accelerate up it. The rapid discharge will heat up the inverter. Next, descend a very steep...
  13. Regeneration Concerns

There is so much BS in this thread. If you don’t know why regen is limited, please do not post your theories. Fact: The regen is limited to a ridiculous degree because the Rivian inverter overheats because it has a poorly designed cooling system. That’s it. That’s the problem. It’s not the...
  14. Panel Gap note residue on windshield at delivery

Get a razor blade and scrape it off. Mine still had some of the blue grease pencil on it when I took delivery. When they arrive at the service center, many if not most have similar markings on them.
  15. RAN in Las Vegas is great! Quick charge to reach Barstow RAN - Higher MPH or Lower MPH??

I loaded my details to ABRP and checked ahead of time and it said we’d be OK. I Google mapped it prior to departure, which put us on the alternate route. I then uploaded that result to the Rivian and it worked flawlessly. I am thinking I can count on 2.0 mi/kWh from my dual motor on the freeway...
  16. RAN in Las Vegas is great! Quick charge to reach Barstow RAN - Higher MPH or Lower MPH??

I did this trip last Friday in my dual motor. However, I-15 was closed south of Vegas and we had to go south to Searchlight NV, then due west on route 164 to rejoin 15. This added miles. Here’s how it went: We left Vegas with 94% and got to Barstow really low (for me) at just 13-14%. We did not...
  17. Denver to Durango through snow in new R1T with stock 21” Scorpion tires (maiden delivery voyage)

I just drove my R1T dual motor with 21s from Denver to Grand Junction in heavy snow over the passes and it was a great drive. I previously had an e-tron with snow tires and the Rivian on stock 21s was only slightly less confident. I would take the truck anywhere.
  18. Quick purchase questions

I picked a DM with 21s out of the shop in mid September and took delivery 9/27. I have driven it in some sketchy weather here in Colorado and have no regrets at all. Snow mode makes all the difference in low traction situations.
  19. One pedal driving inconsistencies

The reason it is inconsistent is that Rivian did not do the design and engineering that other makers did. Other makers produce regenerative braking systems that don’t overheat, and which work in very cold temperatures. Hyundai, GM, VW/Audi, Ford, etc could have simply given up and forced...
  20. Denver to CA in R1S road trip report

OPD exists because it spares the maker from needing to make the integrated driving experience that is pretty much standard elsewhere now. Those systems cost billions to R and D. I totally understand why a startup would choose OPD as the only choice. Itā€˜s really not a thing in real life. I can...
