The data plan is likely going to be the key cost driver here. Rivian can choose to subsidize it or profit from it of course but the $10/month Telsa fees are heavily subsidized and I think they bank on limited use as I don't think they allow the cars to be wi-fi hotspots. They also start...
I'm in the camp for I'd love to get it but I understand the complexity and the only surprising thing is that they put out the feature in the first place without having a lot of it worked out.
It's all up in the air but what I heard was more of a rental model for the supplement pack. To be installed and removed at a service center. Not practical for most use cases but I'm sure many would be interested for getting to more remote locations.
One thought on the 2wd highway, could be that the all purpose mode can detect and switch automatically. If that's already present then no big bump coming if a conserve mode is released.
After reading everyone's comments I'm thinking some of you won't be able to get out of your driveway, lol.
AT tires 15%
Tow full load 50%
Too cold or too hot 20%
Toys on the rack 20%
So looking at a 105% hit on range. Back to the drawing board Rivian!
This is a joke on the math don't @ me
lots of reasons, lol. Like 0-60 in 3 seconds. While there will be lots of around town driving I would never call it puttering in the Rivian.
Besides, with electric, unless I'm road tripping, I'm not super concerned with efficient driving anymore.
Would be quite a nice surprise if range estimates were AWD and conserve mode takes you some measurable distance further. Will be interesting to hear the results of highway tests of this.
No kidding. Like 6+ pages on the wiper stalk
Many of us that have touted this to friends and family have something from a third party to share. It's a fantastic review and reflects what the few others who aren't professional automobile reviewers have said as well. I've been ready...
Glad its announced. Now for the actual dates...
I think they should think about just having perma-events at Normal. It's all set up, just keep em going.
Home solar that isn't grid tied can be an option but "solar" powered DCFC aren't exactly that as the amount of power needed is a lot more than you can get with any normal sized site. So they are typically buying offsets or building a grid tied solar system and claiming the solar produced from...
The biggest difference with new car companies as they are being treated more like tech companies than traditional manufacturers. For start-ups too, a lot of traditional metrics break down for what the market values vs. what the fundamentals say.
$80B is a lot but when put in context of a $700B...
There will be disputes. Hopefully very few but it's going to happen.
Here's where its similar to me... If you abuse the feature to get in a wreck that damages your car is it your fault or the company that enabled the feature? It is different in that tank turn may lead to less obvious failures...
It happens. People do dumb stuff and break their stuff. However, Rivian having all the data and camera feeds would be in a pretty powerful position to combat that.
Look at Telsa with auto-pilot. I mean people literally have died being dumb with that feature but should they take it away because...
If their testing shows that tank turns lead to high rates of failure then don't enable it (but share that info). I want them to release it as its such a cool feature and they will get lots of extra attention because of it.
Warranty exclusions could play a part in how to police "good behavior."...
