That was a close-your-eyes-and-leap decision. You took a risk that you wouldn't need to have any substantial service while you owned it (or leased it). At least you should be able to get the charging issue and the gear tunnel door issue addressed in one trip.
You might be able to tether it inside the frunk (using a tether long enough to allow it to connect to the charge port. Pull up to the charger, pop the frunk lid, pull out adaptor, charge, put adapter back into frunk, and close frunk lid.
P.S. It's not really "stolen," if you left it behind. A...
I don't imagine there's any danger. I keep a sunshade in my R1T, so I almost never see my pano glass. I discovered a couple of months ago that mine has major cracks, and has a big impact point. It doesn't leak air or water, so I didn't have a clue. There must be plastic sandwiched in the glass...
There is a thread here on the forums about using the ODB to connect a battery tender up to 2 or 3A. They report improvements in length of sleeping, just doing that intermittently. That should also improve 12V battery health and life.
Alternatively, you can connect a battery tender directly to...
And fortunately, I should have another 5.5 years of warranty coverage on my HV battery. So, unless something else (an accident?) causes my R1T to be totaled, I probably won't need to consider paying for the cost of replacing the battery for at least five years. I hope that there will be more...
Not anytime soon. A refurbished battery might be an option, in a few years. Or a new battery chemistry/design might bring the price down, in few years.
I saw an interview (on YouTube) with an Aussie (who rented his Tesla out) that had ~420,000 miles on it. It got a HV battery error (but was still driveable as I recall). Since it was still under warranty, Tesla gave him the option of replacing it at no cost with a refurbished battery pack, or...
A five figure battery? I hope that if and when my HV battery needs to be replaced, I'll be able to get something with more capacity and at a lower price than it would cost today. I could be wrong, especially with the way that Rivian and other companies try to prevent access to parts and...
And think how much this operation has cost - who knows how many personnel and how much equipment was involved. Plus, they had to arrest, transport, and jail 500 people. This could have been handled with diplomats or with lawyers - threats of fines, etc. Once the investigation revealed that...
If it causes a change or delay or cancellation of construction for the plant in Arizona, which is to make batteries for Rivian, it could indeed impact Rivian.
Even if some of those Koreans were working on a tourist visa (which doesn't permit work), it should have been handled at the diplomat level, or via communications between authorities, not a mass operation with armed agents. Imagine if one of those armed agents had accidentally shot (or felt...
I think that they could have easily put a 35Ah battery in the spot where the primary (driver's side) battery is, and maybe substantially larger. I had guessed that it must just be such a small space that only two tiny batteries would fit - but now that I've seen it, I know that's not true.
Exactly.
The more time the battery spends at the lower charge levels, and the more charge cycles from low charge back up to acceptable charge, the worse the health or battery life will be. To just depend on the Rivian waking up (when the 12V battery is low on charge) to recharge the battery...
I think you are assuming facts not in evidence.
The forum posts that I saw indicated that even intermittently trickle charging (once or twice a week, IIRC) would cause their Rivian to sleep much longer, in some case (at least) all through the night, instead of waking up every few hours to...
Just a point of information: it was a US resident, but it did not occur on US soil. It was in Turkey on what may be considered Saudi soil - Saudi consulate. I am not defending nor approving of the actions of the Saudi government.
I would say that there is a third reason. An owner may want to get more than two or three years out of those expensive 12V batteries. Using a trickle charger (especially one with a desulphation process) will give you a better chance of extending the life significantly.
If this were a just a...
I just want to reiterate that I said nothing...whatever...about the HV battery. "Adding cycles" was about the AGM 12V battery. If the 12V battery is on its last legs, keeping the Rivian plugged into an L2 charger may keep the 12V battery alive - certainly gives it a better chance of surviving...
