I regret the money and time that I have wasted on Rivian's PTC. It has been delay after delay, and make do, and build my own interim manual solution, with little to no communication from or priority by the mfr. Just go with something else - something that is known to work. Save yourself the...
I've still got a bad taste in my mouth from the unprofessional way they handled ending the $800 sale early, while still showing on the website that it was on sale. Unless they have an $800 sale again, some day, I don't really see myself getting one.
The Autofitpro and the Go Fast Campers are the only ones I've seen, so far, that I would consider. I've seen ads for an inflatable one, and for a clamshell (Wakeshield) that lifts from the back, which I don't like or find suitable. The major shell mfrs have, thus far, chosen not to introduce a...
Trump keeps playing games, or threatening, or feinting, or whatever he is doing. But when tariffs could be as much as 50%, by the time a delivery occurs, that's a bit much. China isn't paying the tariffs. It would be me.
If I can figure out what is likely to be the tariff situation with China in 90 days, I'd like to get in on this buy. Trump-onomics has kept me out of it all year.
GoFast makes one.

And so does AutoFitPro.

This is an AGM SLA battery, same as the original (except rated at 20Ah, versus the original, which is rated at 18Ah). Ohmmu is a lithium replacement, with additional BMS and heaters, because lithium has different charge requirements and a different temperature range. Also, this should be in the...
It apparently has to be the FT230L (not the FT230) to have the red and black terminals in the same position as the Rivian batteries - red on left, and black on right, while facing the battery from the front.

Edit: the FT230L is, I am told...
They referred me to a distributor who told me that they only sold those batteries by the pallet (and they are out of stock, anyway). The distributor didn't bother quoting a price for a pallet of batteries, however many that would have been.
Ride menu seemed to work for me (although someone else said it didn't work for him). I can't say for certain that it worked - I haven't yet replaced my battery, so the red battery icon came back after awhile. Until I have a good battery in there, I won't know for sure. I am using a trickle...
Fullriver Battery says this battery will work. The physical size looks correct, the posts are internally threaded, and in the right position (red on left, black on right, when nearest the observer). Plus, it's rated at 20Ah.
Edit: note that the "L" in FT230L is probably what designates the...
The SC in Tempe, AZ just quoted me $900 to replace two batteries. I also asked them, just three or four months ago (before I crossed 36k miles), whether my batteries might be needing to be replaced - they told me that there was no indication at that time.
Yeah, it's expensive. It might be less than the cost of an OEM bumper, though. In that case, if one were having a Rivian repaired at a body shop, it might be possible to spec this bumper instead.
Does anyone have the exact dimensions of the batteries, or know a source/model for a good AGM replacement battery (with the same terminal arrangement)?
As an aside, I had assumed that the reason that Rivian put undersized batteries in there was because there just wasn't room for anything larger...
"...why didnt Rivian..."
Why indeed. No way to know that. They might have had a long term deal with a supplier that they could not get out of.
Quite a few people have done it DIY. There is some risk involved - I think mainly that it could require a tow to SC to reset the system, if it doesn't...
