What's your point?
Every vehicle is essentially launched with what some might consider beta software in one way or another. Why do you think they have the ability to support OTA updates?
Pure speculation: It's very possible that they're still running code with high levels of logging, which has the potential to cause lag that's not really indicative of the actual performance. At this phase it makes sense to capture as much detail as possible in the log files, so you can hone in...
You shouldn't compare Rivian to your local dealership. The reviews were also mentioned in the post I replied to. My previous comments still apply. You have to take a leap of faith as an early adopter that the any promised refinements will make it to production.
There's nothing new about OEMs using pre-production vehicles for media events. While it's far from ideal, it's also a heck of a lot better than waiting even longer for reviews. Why as a startup would you allocate production vehicles to a media event rather than sell them? The media event...
This is consistent with how most other OEM air suspensions with multiple ride heights function. Front of rear will lower to the next level, then the other end will do the same. My GC Trailhawk behaved just like this.
CarPlay isn't free, since it requires Apple defined authentication hardware in order to support. While it might not be expensive, it certainly isn't free. In addition, it would also require certification by Apple and/or Google, depending on what the OEM integrates. Certification adds time to...
Excellent response.
In my opinion, the Amazon connection is the deal RJ made with the devil. I flat out don't trust Amazon. I don't have any Alexa devices, and will likely disconnect the microphone inside my R1T for this reason.
The vehicle will certainly remain connected to the "Mothership", regardless of wether the owner has an active subscription or not. The SIM would have what's referred to as "dual billing" capability. This allows the OEM to have a persistent connection for their purposes, with a rate that's...
This will be the purpose of the R2 vehicles. Tesla didn't start with the Model 3 for a reason...
You need the higher margin vehicles to fund development of the down market vehicles. Also consider what many of the R1 vehicles will be replacing and the related impact.
It was my first choice, since I love red vehicles. It has to be the right kind of red though, so I switch to Launch Green and save the $$$.
The recent pictures have me reconsidering.
Let's not forget that Wrangler Rubicon 392 start at $75990, and regular Rubicon 4xe start at $54925. Based on this, I wouldn't expect the R1X to be priced comparable to a base Wrangler Unlimited Sport.
I don't know that any of the G branded services have much in the way public API's. I was focusing on the automotive side. With respect to Spotify - they don't enable access to the full set of features.
Don't make the mistake of blaming a specific technology (HTML5) rather than those...
Google has no control over the automotive interface, only provides guidelines, and in fact has tools to enable the OEM to develop their own. In addition, you don't have to utilize GAS (Google Automotive Services) as part of your solution and are free to select your own...
I've been down this path with one of the domestic OEMs about 7-8 years ago. The OEM had an HTML5-based application framework that SHOULD have been fairly straightforward to develop against. The main problem is that getting service providers to develop applications for relatively low volume...
