It doesn't need to be for most people as evidenced by the interest in the Maverick. What the Canoo does have is a unique combination of storage, cargo management, and reconfiguration potential. The overall simplicity of the design and service access to the individual battery modules is in line...
I'm not one to coordinate the color of my vehicle to my surroundings, but whatever works for you. It's your $$$.
I don't think there's a color that makes the R1T look bad or anything. I considered Red Canyon and LA Silver before settling on LG.
The LR Pangea Green has a much more prominent metallic character to it, whereas Launch Green has a much finer grained pearl. It's the fine grain metallic/pearl that makes it look like a solid pigment paint from a distance, while enabling the gray/green color shift..
It really depends on lighting and the surrounding environment. Looks at home and blends into the greens of grass, trees, etc. Pops against the autumn leaves and red rocks of the southwest. Seeing it in person solidified Launch Green as my color choice.
They might have wanted a one stop solution with a hypervisor. Much of this depends on if they have a single domain controller for the center stack and cluster displays.
The pearl is very fine, so it's not obvious from much more than a foot or two away. Appears non-metallic from a distance, but it's the pearl that provides the color shift.
I'd be impressed if this is the only thing wrong with a new vehicle from a new company. It does appear to be a consistent alignment issue based on the R1T I saw today.
Keep in mind, there's companies that have been doing this for 100+ years and still can't get it right.
The main point here is that Rivian could implement ALL of this without sharing our data with 3rd parties. Not having the ability to opt out of data sharing is a concern.

The SIM inside the TCU will most likely be an eSIM, which means it's soldered to the board. Simply disconnect the cellular antenna and it most likely won't be able to get a signal. Keep Wi-fi turned off, and don't use the voice controls.
There should be an ability to Opt out of data collection, and furthermore include the "right to be forgotten". I'd be in favor of GPDR-like data privacy protections.
We had the slow version of the Baja and always wanted the turbo version. While on the small side, the cargo passthrough was a great feature that we used often enough. They also had a slick fork mount bike rack that attach near the front of the bed. that and the bed extender were great add-ons.
