There's at least one unconfirmed report that the Coastal Cloud interior isn't available with Launch Edition. It won't be ready as an option till late 2026.
I would wait to see this confirmed from Rivian directly, but kind of lame if this is true.
There's no exact lidar date. At first they said late 2026, but RJ recently said early 2027.
The non-lidar cars are basically working out all the bugs in the factory to get ramped up. Then when Lidar and RAP1 are ready, they get transitioned in.
The Drive: Rivian Won’t Talk About the Missing R2 Tri-Motor. The Reason Why Is Big
Article connects Rivian Adventure Department with a future tri-motor option. Might be a ways off since Rivian hasn't said much, but it's interesting.
I'm guessing tri-motor is at least a year away since they haven't even talked about it. Seems like it's coming though.
The Drive: Rivian Won’t Talk About the Missing R2 Tri-Motor. The Reason Why Is Big
There really isn't enough detail on how far Gen 2 can go and how soon lidar software with more advanced autonomy will be ready after it comes out. Even the launch date for lidar release may have moved by a few months. At first they said late 2026 and now RJ has recently said early 2027.
People...
The problem with lidar will be the software. They will use it for data collection initially because the software will be ready and it helps even non-lidar gen 2 cars.
For customer level advancements that really uniquely take advantage of lidar, i'm a little more skeptical how soon they can get...
Reasonable pricing, specs and range. Don't love the timelines on the cheaper options as they spent two years advertising base $45k price so it comes off as misleading, but it is what it is.
For how boxy the R2 is, i'm actually impressed with range as it's competitive with Model Y.
The rest of the colors like Borealis and even the multiple greens only attract less than 5% of customers. Lot of added production complexity for so few customers. Rivian's already doing more than they need to here.
Most people want White, black, silver, grey, and blue in the USA...
I think that blue in the wrap is just a nod to R2-D2 droid from Star Wars. I'm leaning towards it being some other shade of blue like a variation of Rivian Blue. If that wrap is "Catalina Cove", then marketing really went overboard with these names.
So it's basically the standard color palette with fancy names plus purple and a special launch green.
So standard colors being: White, black, silver, darker grey, green, blue. The blue being some variation of Rivian Blue.
(Could have been worse. I actually thought they would launch with...
Since Launch Edition R2 will have both dual mode radar and the new 65 MP cameras, we should get good feedback once they are delivered. Big question is whether the software will be worked out enough.
Here's a quote from one of the radar suppliers about how this might work:
At launch, but not later on as they ramp production. See here for example:

check out the post above you from tmbm50. The middle two sections of his post address why low voltage lithium ion would be helpful even for Rivian.

So you are saying the size, thermal mass, charge rate and discharge rate don't matter for LFP applications?
I don't think you read my post that well, but feel free to hand-wave away all the technical details in my post without addressing them.
Edit: Please read the two followup posts below...
I don't think that comparison applies here. This low voltage LFP battery is a very small battery with low thermal mass, very low charge rates, and minimal power output. The cold-weather limitations of LFP mainly appear when charging or discharging at high rates.
