Deliveries start in June so they are going to have to open up the configurator for at least some portion of Launch edition customers that reserved early. They have to organize these orders for production as paint colors are a big item to coordinate in a factory.
In the middle of the main R2 page on the website, you can switch between interiors and scroll around. I just noticed that difference today when i was rotating around in their interior view.

It was confirmed independently with Rivian: https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/coastal-cloud-interior-not-available-with-r2-launch-edition.56989/
He actually followed up with a post in that thread too and checked with Rivian a second time:
Isn't this due to 21" being an orphaned wheel size for R1 Gen 1? Wonder if availability is as bad on 22" even though it's a bigger size since it's still available for gen 2?
The 21" wheels for R2 should be available on a far bigger vehicle fleet over time. Just from a tire option perspective...
Sounds like they just misread the press release like so many others. If Esker Silver is the base color, then everything else would be paid. That's how RivianTrackr has reported it as every other color being optional.
I would wait to see it laid out in a configurator before making any...
Fits pretty well with Wassym's comments about June launch and using those 1600 employees for April and May to get more hours in the car to shake out bugs.
Rivian is production constrained. There's no way to fulfill that demand currently. You might have a point after they ramp up the Georgia factory, but cutting out the dealer model gives them levers to pull. And they can put the saved money back into the product instead of giving it to...
you have a good safe guess. It could be earlier or slightly later. Most people will cancel just because 2 years has gone by and people's situations aren't static. I see plenty of people buying and keeping R1 or they bought before the tax credit expired.
You can pay in full or subscription in Europe. No US pricing yet so who knows how the trims and pricing work here. Sound like we will get that pricing around April.
There appears to be recess in the subtrunk that's designed to fit the compact spare. Slightly molded in. I think it was shown in one of the recent Austin walk-around videos on Youtube with the Normal pre-production vehicles.
Good observation. Hadn't noticed that. Makes comparisons with R2 a little trickier when Tesla is giving way paint colors for free on Performance models.
Depends on options pricing. If too high, then Esker Silver. If reasonable, maybe something like Catalina Cove. Will still have to see them on a vehicle before I decided as I don't think the pictures are good enough.
They’ll pick a default color that keeps the paint shop running smoothly with the fewest changeovers. Silver does that and it’s popular.
Cheaper cars can't eat the extra cost of those changeovers and lower volume. Plus some colors are just more expensive to apply.
Article from August said they were expecting production start in summer 2026. Rivian shouldn't need anymore batteries for a while. That's a big plant.

We're in a reset period in 2026 so automakers just have to get their bearings this year. I wouldn't look at EV sales this year as proof of anything. Just that the market has to reset.
If gas prices hit $5 average for long enough with current events, then the incentives won't even matter...
