Yes. It's still an old car with mileage whether it's a 2027 or 2028 by the time 2033 rolls out. Autonomy hardware will keep changing. There will be a Gen 4 and Gen 5 Rivian too. We're only in the beginning stages of autonomy.
Going to be a hard decision for us. I don't think I will personally be making any assumptions that there's zero downside to Gen 2 even in the near term in 2027. At least to me there is some risk that the extra compute could make Autonomy even at lower levels a much better and robust...
Might be for employees and these are just the final production builds .
Weirdly some people are saying it's for regular customers and not employees. But the employee builds should be the same so this doesn't make much sense.
I thought this too, but I think I would hold off on jumping to conclusions since that is just an isolated rumor without all the details and context. Let's see it on paper.
I had a second thought too. If i really hate the 20" AT tires then I could just sell the AT tires and keep the 20" rims.
Just as a remote backup plan for people like who have never used AT tires.
Is one option for people who want all seasons to just get the 20" ATs and then switch once those are worn out? Then i'm not stuck with flipping 21" tires and rims. Asking because I don't know anything about AT tires.
Edit: My gut says yes this is the right strategy and that almost nobody...
The problem in the photos is that Catalina Cove looks like 4 different colors in various lighting. So the concerns are uncertainty that it might be a touch too green day to day for people who want it a little more blue day to day.
I'm going to wait it out and check out all these colors in...
There's been some teasers that more R2 variants could be coming from RAD. So maybe a tri-motor?
What's on your R2 tri-motor wishlist from RAD?
Here's a link to what RAD is: https://stories.rivian.com/rad-rivian-adventure-department-2026
Seems like when it's overcast it goes green and in brighter light it looks more blue at least in photos. Definitely something I want to understand better at one of the Spaces to see if it looks different in the real world versus the online photos.
With this whole RAD adventure division thing, isn't there a possibility of a spicy tri-motor R2 that has some extra tricks? Not necessarily what we are talking about here with lockers, but maybe other useful add-ons?
It's still an employee beta testing process in April and May just with production vehicles (probably incentivized like with R1). Just so the rest of us regular customers don't have major issues in June. At least that's the gist of what Wassym Bensaid said in one of the Out of Spec interviews.
It's almost 900 lbs heavier than the equivalent Model Y. Doing pretty good considering all that extra weight. Wonder if there could be a variant that goes on a diet?
Kind of interesting how Catalina Cove can show like 4 colors. More shades of green in darker lighting and shades of blue in brighter lighting.
I'm getting better at spotting the differences between R1. One of the above "R2" pics has a split tailgate. :D
