What's your end goal?
You say you don't need a true AT, but you want something that looks aggressive? I would caution that if you're not looking for an AT tire, I'd stay away from things like "look aggressive". Personal option, I don't think those look aggressive at all.
Remember you can...
A little negativity in here with words like “shortsighted” and “stubborn” being thrown around.
Some people just like what they like, and that’s okay. Most people aren’t enthusiasts, and most aren’t looking to learn or adapt to something new.
A lot of my friends have been driving the same type...
It has been maybe 1,000 miles since I had my Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/Ts on and they did a wonderful job on the sand dunes.
This past weekend, I swapped back to my OEM 22s.
This isn't a review on them, but just an observation on how much of a diameter difference the OEM 22" is vs. a 20"...
I did it side to side, inadvertently.
I wanted to try leveling for the first time, and didn't realize how long it takes for it to return to "normal" height.
Leveled it with one side on a curb. :P
And it stayed like this for a couple of minutes before returning to normal. Don't plan...
Reading your post, I'm not sure you need an AT at all. Your gravel/dirt roads don't need an all terrain tire. A normal road tire is fine. It seems 99% of your driving is going to be on pavement, so I'd suggest a more road worthy tire.
Unpopular comment:
The 22" tire (on an R1) is far from a low profile IMO. While it is mathematically lower than the 20", it is plenty fat compared to true low profile tires which are often 35 series or less.
If your preference is comfort or aesthetics, sure, get what you want. But pointing...
I can't speak for the running boards, but one of the major benefits of an EV is most of them don't "turn off". You can sit in the car/on the ferry while:
- Watching Youtube/casting movies
- Relaxing with the HVAC running with seat ventilation/heating
It remains quiet and doesn't bother anyone...
Quiet, smoother, not heavy, or inefficient means you're probably not going to get something that "looks cool".
Looking cool generally means large bulky tread, side blocks, etc (look at Rugged Terrain R/T or Mud Terrain M/T to see examples). Looking cool can also mean "race-y" like a summer...
Oh I know, of course. But its never come on when it is 73F outside. I regularly check my app and those days when the interior cabin is 110F+, outside is at least 85F.
Just odd to me. I guess the sun hit the car just right that day.
A lot of folks say 125, but I've seen it activate at a few different temps.
128F and nothing happened
Yesterday 108F and it turned on
Multiple times at 110F+ and nothing happened
In the 3 years I've had the Rivian, I think I've seen it turn on 3 times ever, and one of those times was...
Expected to use, but rarely ever use:
Frunk - I store some small things in there like hats and maybe a jacket. Most of the time I forget it's there even when I pack the trunk full.
Driver+/highway assist - Forgot the term, but I enjoy driving myself so in the last 30K miles, I've maybe used...
Update:
Got these chunky bois mounted yesterday at Discount/America's Tire near me.
Haven't gone above 65mph yet but no wheel shake. Surprisingly quiet. Happy so far. Will drive it for a week or so on pavement before hitting the sand dunes.
In Sport/Lowest mode. I wouldn't drive like...
I'm confused. Are you just using the website to configure (I haven't checked yet) and looking at the renderings?
I can confidently say that you shouldn't rely on any renderings or website photos to judge how the final product will look. Especially if you're inspecting panel gaps.
Take a look at my comments above. I did consider the crazy MT and RT tires but after some additional research they perform very poor on wet and sand, which is primarily where I’ll be when using these.
Yes they look awesome and that’s why I was originally attracted to them. I was so close to...
To comment on the above...
Don't care about range. I toss these on when going off road, into the mountains, on the sand dunes. Otherwise, will be using my normal 22" wheel/tire setup 99.9% of the time.
These Mickey Thompson Baja Bosses will last longer than I will own the Rivian.
Thank you. So I ended up purchasing a set of these. I was in a bit of a rush since I needed them mounted by this weekend.
These were my top choice, and I was so close to getting these but the fact that the Baja Boss A/T (not R/T) was 3 peak rated pushed me to that direction.
I have no...
Thanks for the detail on this post. I may consider these, but which Baja Boss specifically did you get?
Your photos make it look like the M/T. Do you have the A/T?
America's Tire/Discount Tire seems to only have a 285mm for the M/T until you get to the 33-42" numbers. They have OEM sizes...
I'm looking to replace a very worn set of BF Goodrich K02s with something fun. I only mount these when I'm going off road so they aren't used often and frankly may last the remaining time I own the vehicle. 99% other times I'm on my factory 22" wheels with Michelin Defenders.
I do NOT do...
