Rivian is slightly more efficient, both indicated numbers and via charging confirmation.
Ford took in 30.164 kwh
Rivian took in 28.77 kwh and charged 5 min faster
Hmmm I just checked it out - they got 260 miles with the Platinum trim 22" wheels. EPA hwy mileage is roughly that, with a 300 combined rating. Still notably worse than the R1T on 20" ATs though.
I for one am glad to se SOME action on the topic. I won't lie that I am not concerned about road tripping the R1T - I am. Meanwhile I fear no distance in my Tesla...
Assume it's worst case, Dual Motor Explore for $67,500. It's still a 4WD Air Suspended crew pickup with 600 electric horsepower, 250+range, and a premium interior. I struggle to name another 500+ horsepower truck/suv for under $70k. Would that spec be worth $100k? Maybe. Would the Launch Edition...
We know mid sized SUVs are the hot item right now. Just look at the Model Y - which outsells the Model 3 while being more expensive and practically the same car.
Would love to see a small Truck and SUV with off-road chops. Like a bigger Maverick and Bronco Sport.
Then becomes the question of how...
I'm surprised the designers allow the tires to rub in this failure mode. I've heard that other marques also have this issue when air suspension fails. In my mind it should have a fixed compressed length that doesn't cause contact, that way you could still drive it (even without spring comfort).
Great in depth review! Thanks!
Things of note:
- Traction management is poor (wheel slip and torque steer)
- Off road angles and ground clearance are pitiful
- That front end...looks bad
Still a great option for those looking for a normal full size pickup that is efficient. It's just so far...
AGREE 1000%
I thought the Lightning front end looked cool until I saw it on video. That translucent white light bar is hideous and cheap looking, not to mention the grill. And people complain about the Rivian front end...
...So you multiply your % remaining, times vehicle 'tank' size, then divide by energy/mile to get estimated range?
Example: 20 mpg (5 gal/100mi) half tank (20 gallon total)
1. 0.5 x 20 gal = 10 gal, 10 / 5 = 2, 2 x 100 = 200 miles range
2. 0.5 x 20 gal = 10 gal, 10 x 20 = 200 miles range
If...
Kyle describes the Lightning as "Floaty" and "Undersprung" but also "Just as it should be" for a f150. Rivian likely runs higher effective spring rates and their wheel/tire combos are more aggressive, which will ride firmer. Still all R1T reviews so far glow about the ride/handling.
This thread didn't disappoint, came here for this camping concern.
Anyone get luck on a stealth mode yet?
(Referring to the glow coming from the port area itself)
