Yes, this is "normal" and also can be very disturbing. I have an R1T Tri motor with the 22" wheels. I also notice that in addition to the noise, there is also a harshness in the ride feel and added shake/slop in the steering when this is happening. My Gen1 Quad did this really bad, worsening...
I had a Gen1 with the in-house Rivian Elevation and I can say that they did make significant improvements to the sound over my 19 months of ownership. My Gen2 premium audio is embarrassingly bad.
Those high b-pillar speakers? I put my ear right to them and I don't hear a thing coming from them.
I definitely notice the center channel bias, overall flat soundstage (odd to achieve something so terrible with so many well-placed drivers), and clipping in the mid bass frequency range. Low bass doesn't clip, its just gutless.
Doesn't this new 2025 update address some of these issues? I don't have the update yet, but I'm hoping for major improvement.
Per the Gen2 notes:
Sound system improvements:
Improved reproduction of where the sounds come from (for spatial image).
Improved the low-frequency (bass) response...
Nice! So you had issues with your quad, but not related to this rattling and clunking front suspension?
I went with the black interior with the dark wood trim. This ascend interior is beautiful! What did you go with?
First 800 miles in my Tri were bliss! Now its a jekyll & hyde thing.
The couple of quiet R1Ts that I've been in had 20" AT wheel set up. My quad had 21s, my tri has 22s. Is there something to that?
I have not had the drive unit(s) replaced, but definitely had all sorts of those issues with my old Gen1 Quad. They replaced dampers, jounce, and halfshafts. Nothing stopped the ever-worsening rattle and clatter from the front. I'm interested in how this works out for you.
My new Gen2 Tri...
Anyone have a good method to buff out some light surface scratches and scuffs, without ruining that nice brightly polished factory finish? I am really concerned that getting out those scratches will damage the finish and produce cloudy-looking areas.
This metal trim is the one material that...
Same. Looking forward to this update. I'll reset my EQ and readjust after it.
Currently my issue is narrow sound stage, terrible amounts of clipping/distortion at the mid-low end frequencies, and all around bad speaker balancing.
Also, I put my ear directly on the speakers at the top of...
I have (4) 22" sport dark wheels that I'd like to trade for the 20" ATs, with tires. As of this posting, I only have 1200 miles on my truck. Good tread left and wheels are great shape without any scuffs.
Prefer local trades only.
Reading my mind! We've been unusually warm, too. Warmed up tired pressure was creeping up to 50-51 psi. I took about 4-5 psi out and it did help some, although with the warmer temps, my front end is a chatter box. So frustrating. Only 1100 miles on it.
Very true about the 22s. I went for...
Wow! And no front end suspension rattle or clunking? It's interesting because I hear so often the argument to exercise the suspension, but you're sort of saying the opposite. You just sit in lowest.
I've heard about this "stretch and flex" for the suspension. Different people have a different process, but the concept is similar. I do suspect that it has some software related component to it.
Any suspension noise or clunking, or did this calibration resolve that?
How often do you need to...
I have a Gen2 Tri with 22" sports wheels. I live in an area with not the best streets - worn, patched up/spliced, grooved, etc. Streets are definitely not the worst I've seen, either. The first 600 miles on my vehicle were amazing. The ride feel was soft, but also tight and solid. The truck...
