  1. Doug DeMuro tours the F150 Lightning

I don't think I said that. My stance (and I think the general conscientious here is) that when Ford and everyone else says "They start at $40k", they don't really start at $40k, closer to $52-$54k for one that Joe Public can buy. So it comes off a bit as false advertising.
  2. Doug DeMuro tours the F150 Lightning

Yup, I think that's the killer... you literally cannot buy the 40k one.
  3. What are you sacrificing to stay below the $80,000 tax break threshold?

Agreed. I think if they wanted to wiggle around that MSRP limit, you could configure a "Max Pack Capable" truck in the configurator, and then at time of delivery, you could add that "dealer installed option". If you didn't pull the trigger, you don't get that truck, but one just like it...
  4. Doug DeMuro tours the F150 Lightning

Well, $50k - $12.5k (current EV proposed tax credit) brings it back in line with their old $40k work truck. But yeah, I agree, every time I hear "It's only $40k!" it makes my teeth grind. It's $40k for the fleet only version with the small battery pack and manual roll up windows y0...
  5. Estimated Time of Delivery feature coming to Rivian configuration tool

Agreed. Any timeline, even a rough one, that moves around, is better than radio silence. And honestly, it won't be any worse than what's going on with Tesla's (and, really, any car manufacturer) right now. At best, most of these companies are putting tablestakes at the semester level, not even...
  6. Seattle Rivian First Mile Test Drive Event Impressions & Reviews - by Forum Members

2018 reservation holders only for now: As for the R1S deliveries in Summer-ish of 2022... makes sense. The R1S will probably follow a similar delivery pattern as the R1T. The first several will go to internal employees and such for "Real World" testing and QC/QA. So, by December they will be...
  7. Towing Spy Shot - R1T Tows ATC Trailer

It would be better to use that data in the UI as well to help project your range. Put it in Tow/Haul mode, enter in the rough weight of the trailer, and pick from a few general shapes/sizes... kinda like what Ford is doing with the F150.
  8. Fixed Rear Window

Jesus... who moved the rock. ...please put it back and take this with you. Short sticks: Over the tailgate Long sticks: Tailgate down and tie downs ...move along... no troll feeding here.
  9. Do I really need the Max Pack?

Seriously... buy want you want. If you don't drive or rarely drive in excess of 200 miles per day, and don't often either take long road trips, or go "off grid" for extended periods, I think you already have your answer. I am, because I do go on longer roadtrips at least 3-5 times per year...
  10. Do I really need the Max Pack?

You should also consider the charging curve. On a larger battery pack, hitting that 80% marker where you typically see a noticeable drop off, will be at a much higher kW/Range level than on a smaller battery pack... as such, you would hit 300 miles of range in the 400 mile pack quicker than you...
  11. Do I really need the Max Pack?

Don't go by what you see there to determine your range. That truck has been driven like a stolen rental truck all day long. It's Watts per Mile are going to be waaaaay off of your (most likely) day to day use. ....I mean unless you are doing donuts, ripping up hills, and seeing how quick you...
  12. WSJ Editorial: Rivian, the Government Unicorn

*looks up government hand outs to Oil and Coal industry* Huh... picking the cherries is fun! Corporate welfare is only welfare when it's something you don't like or profit from...
  13. Solar charging kit in the works for Rivian

3 day family camping trip, coming out with about 90 more miles of range than I went in with... sounds like a winner to me.
  14. The line looked busy this morning…

My only issue with a trailer, is storage. I have a Yakima Rack and Roll I use for my Kayaks and Thule with my Tesla X. It works well enough as it collapses down... but at 350 pound limit... ya not hauling much. ?
  15. The line looked busy this morning…

If I didn't need the truck bed to haul random crap to the dump, or from home improvement/garden stores... I'd go for an R1S in a heartbeat.
