  1. Have you measured the 20 inch AT tires?

Not certain how you measured. I believe the correct way to measure the tires is without any weight on them; so either removed from the vehicle or jacked up where the tire is suspended above the ground. Do you think the tire mfg. mounts tires on vehicles to measure them?
  2. How Much it Cost to Drive a Rivian 3,000 Miles Compared to a Midsize Gas Pickup Truck Cents Per Mile

Not to be off topic, but wanted to answer that. Yes, “something else …” NIMBYs (Not In My Back Yard) is what stopped nuclear plants after the Three Mile Island incident.
  3. Rivian off roading photos -- post yours!

Yes, dry lakebeds are notorious for thick sticky mud when they get a little rain. Burning Man experienced that this year. When I saw your first pic I thought you had been in one of those competitive mud runs. Never thought about the flat bottom becoming like a suction cup when down on the...
  4. Rivian off roading photos -- post yours!

Would like to see what you went thru to accumulate all that. Were you able to get thru it under your own power?
  5. Rivian Quality - Two Genuine Questions

I think you should stick with your current vehicles, or buy updates of them if you are just looking to buy something. If you purchase a Rivian the odds are you will find something wrong with it as you sound (to me) like someone who will be very picky and expecting near perfection. Then if you...
  6. R1S liftgate opened while driving and all luggage fell out! (Drive Cam video added)

Yes, your location is viewable in my phone map app. I just looked it, Tonopah, up. I do occasionally visit relatives in CA and AZ, but only place I have been to in NV is Las Vegas a couple times. I have not been that far west yet in my R1S, but will be later this year. I’m a little surprised...
  7. R1S liftgate opened while driving and all luggage fell out! (Drive Cam video added)

Are you comfortable telling me where this “remote area” is so that I can avoid it?
  8. R1S running boards news ?

Take a look at www.weistec.com if you are interested in more substantial sill guards made of stainless steel.
  9. HOW DOES A NEW OWNER LEARN HIS/HER NEW R1S?

As others have said, read everything you can in this forum. There are many very knowledgeable people here. After that drive, drive, drive; and experiment with your Rivian.
  10. HOW DOES A NEW OWNER LEARN HIS/HER NEW R1S?

Obviously, you have not been around long enough (too young). ? That is the exact location where the gear shift lever was for most cars with an automatic transmission a few (?) years back. So for someone old enough (me) that is an acceptable location for it. Would be nice to be your age today...
  11. Let's remove the Conserve Mode stigma

Thank you for that “rant”. Although I suspected much of what you explained it is always good to have verification from someone who has “been there, done that”. Much appreciated.
  12. All purpose mode. City driving. Average speed 45-55 mph.

Yes. Also I find it hard to believe maxing out (4.01 mi/kwh) for part of the 15 minute graph while averaging 45-55 mph unless going downhill. Would like to see trip details for that trip.
  13. Is the Model X now a better buy over R1S? (WARNING: NO ELON MUSK DISCUSSIONS)

Yes. You are missing the fact that you already know what you want. By the end of your original post it was very clear that you had already made your decision. Your few replies to others clearly reinforced that. I find myself wondering why you even asked. Go buy your X, and enjoy it best you...
  14. Rental Parking For Rivian --- Valet-Only Garage?

I don’t really know your situation other than what you described, and I have never lived in a place like downtown Chicago. Though I do frequently visit there. However, if I was living there, and I wanted to buy a Rivian (or any EV) I would consider moving out of downtown Chicago to one of the...
  15. Using Rally Mode on-road

I do agree that is a good thing to make people aware of potential problems as you have. However, if you have lived long enough you have driven many vehicles without anti-sway, ABS, traction control, etc. So, is it a problem? Yes, people got injured or died without those safety features; but...
  16. Should I bail out or stick?

Are there utility electric lines along the road where you leave the vehicle when you “snowshoe in”? If so, it is possible the electric utility could provide (at a cost) a metered electric service point at that location. Then you could install your own charger (EVSE) or just a 240 volt outlet...
  17. 4.01 kWh club

Your test data is interesting. I’m not sure I understand the “whys” behind the numbers. Have to give this more thought. This is a start towards understanding the different distance/kwh data sources in the vehicle … appreciate you taking the time to do this.
  18. I just read where RJ was critiquing people who purchase gasoline vehicles.

In my opinion, he did address the affordability of EVs in a quite sensitive manner and at length. EV charging infrastructure will get there especially with the federal $ being offered specifically for this. Additionally, most charging will be done at home; so the public EV charging...
  19. Customer Service just told me I live too far away (Southern Oregon), and I won't get a delivery until a service center is erected closer to me?

It’s a 5 hour round trip to my closest SC, but I would still have bought my R1S if the round trip was 8 hours … or even 10 or 12 hours. If they refused to sell to me bcuz I was too far away I would have done what many others did - change my delivery address to a friend’s or relative’s house...
