Based on some hiccups in the lease process I've seen reported it's probably a good idea that this effort started small. But agreed the specific line-up of States is kind of surprising.
That too.
This is a choice on their part. Arbitrary. The point of having non-transferable reservations was to avoid selling (scalping) reservations. That has zero bearing on me leasing the vehicle.
Because from the auto manufacturer's standpoint a lease is simply a sale at the price negotiated in the lease transaction. There's no difference from a corporate finance or earnings POV between a sale to me directly at $80k and a lease to me with a 'sale' price of $80k.
Again, you're missing the point: from Rivian's POV there's no difference. It's a sale at $80k-ish either way. That's it. Literally. No difference to them.
LOL. Please stay silent as opposed to revealing yourself a fool. I've worked for two decades doing sale leasebacks in all manner of asset classes. I understand deeply what a lease is, how they're accounted for, etc etc etc. For an auto manufacturer, a lease is not different than a sale.
Full...
Tell me you know nothing about corporate finance and leasing without telling me you know nothing about corporate finance and leasing.
Hint: there's no difference to the company. They book a sale whether selling directly or leasing.
Same. See my thread here:
https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/leasing-not-offered-at-pre-price-hike-prices-for-reservation-holders.23530/
So fucking stupid. If you know anything about leasing and corporate finance, there's no difference. If they're willing to sell me a vehicle at $80k...
My guide just confirmed - they even went back internally to make absolutely sure:
"I was able to confirm from our teams that, unfortunately, we do not offer leasing to those with pre-March pricing updates. I apologize for the inconvenience this may cause. "
So fucking stupid and frustrating...
I hope this is a temporary oversight on Rivian's part. I've emailed my guide to ask whether I can lease my pre-price hike config (or lease an R1S from the shop, but at pre-price hike prices).
Can you walk me through how it shows this? And also how it differentiates say L3 and L2 chargers? Like I see the red bubbles with numbers. I click on one. I see 250kW max, 150kW, 72kW. So is 250 L3, 150 L2, and 72 L1? And I'd need to see 400 for a Magicdock???
Thanks for all the comments. I appreciate the thoughts. I think something that's still sort of sticking in my mind is that we're soon to have kids in college, and if the R1S remains our only vehicle - as hoped - then it's possible if not likely that I'll want that marginal extra range in the Max.
Doh! You're right. Realized that I clicked from one 22 to the other rather than to the 21. Hmmm. So yeah maybe I take the "free" 21s, spend that $ for now on the exterior color I want, and get the Dual Performance/Max, then buy a snow tire/wheel set...
Yup I am coming from a Model Y so that's my take too. I'd love more firm dates for the network opening up and adapters being sold, but I may have to hit Go before that.
