Before the announcement, they were still saying 2022 for Max Pack, and CS would concur. As of the instant the announcement went out, no Max Packs were ever going to deliver before 2023. It's "sudden" in that the company line changed the instant the email went out.

You haven't taken a look at either the new or used car market lately. Take both general supply shortage and general high demand, add in "The hot new truck everyone loves and wants"... and I bet LEs are easily gonna flip for $10k-20k over MSRP, if not more. Not next fall, but in March? April...
