  1. Rivian Announces The Yosemite Charging Outpost

Rivian could buy the mostly unused V2 Tesla site in West Yellowstone. It is not suited for Tesla demographics and the wires are already in the ground. (Save one in case a Tesla shows up.)
  2. Rivian Announces The Yosemite Charging Outpost

Small town at 3,000 feet elevation. They probably had limited kW supply from PG&E. That make-shift power company might be using old telegraph wires for transmission.
  3. Another R1T Stump Pull. So much carnage!

Good advice. Back in my Jeep and Land Rover days it was a standard accessory.
  4. Rivian Trade In Estimator Launched

Vehicle values degrade at levels similar to an Electrify America charging curve in Nevada. Buy what you want and drive it. It's not an investment.
  5. Dealer Rivian not selling-Should I trust this car?

It does look like residual adhesive. Ask if you could try this stuff... Soak it for five minutes. I've used it on stubborn adhesive and road bugs with "crazy glue" DNA. The least invasive solution before you get into "Bar Keepers Friend" or low dose isopropyl.
  6. Roadtrip videos are like excuses, everyone has one...this is ours: 4.5K Miles/2.6MWh/$900

That is one feature I have noticed on road trips that is almost scary for accuracy. No matter what I think, high or low, the Rivian estimate is within a few miles. The algorithms must be factoring elevation and previous history.
  7. Tucson, AZ to Playa Palomas, Sonora, Mexico

I was at the coast near Rosarito around thirty years ago with a BMW 3.0 CS. Sitting on the sand watching the waves and “Eric Estrada” (who had studied English at Oxford) informed me I was in violation “open container”. Miles from anywhere. $20. Since they are now in competition with the...
  8. RJ Explains: Why Rivian Builds Its Technology In-House

You would have TOO MUCH autonomy = "We know what's good for you." = We can't charge for it.
  9. Other EVs ruin my trips

I have taken multiple road trips in over a half dozen states with my Kia EV6 GT-L that has an 800 volt charging structure - mainly with EA DC chargers. I’ve learned that there is little difference in my time with the 150 or 350kW chargers. The 150’s stay in the one hundreds long enough. The...
  10. Kia EV9. What many R1S buyers would be very happy with...

My problem with the Kia EV9 was that it didn’t provide off-road capability. Other than that, it checked more boxes than my R1S. For those who say “just a Kia”, it’s in the top three for J.D. Power satisfaction. I bought #509 of the First Edition EV6 GT-L over two years ago. So far, after...
  11. Kia EV9. What many R1S buyers would be very happy with...

True. But I checked out the EV9 again while I was waiting for a firmware update on my EV6 GT-L. I considered the build quality and the ground clearance and decided I was happy with my R1S "truck" as opposed to the EV9 "car". After 8k miles on the R1S, no regrets. And the Rivian is getting...
  12. RJ listen to what Jason Cammisa has to say about the 2nd gen R1S / R1T / R3

I love my R1S but my Kia EV6 GT-L has CarPlay, USB media, and AM Radio. (The sunroof that opens is also pretty cool.) They figured it out at less cost.
  13. Rivians in hot weather -- experience / tips?

I have found the shades that mount on the outside to be the most effective in the California central valley heat. It prevents the glass from heating. They are good for two summers before they start to deteriorate. No test with snow. The straps are fine. The "magnet" feature is useless.
  14. Wassym AMA Summary - from 6/13/2024 (Gen1, Gen2 & More)

Yellow vehicles seem to have the highest resale value... https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a44509302/yellow-cars-paint-a-bright-depreciation-picture-but-dont-get-a-gold-one/
  15. Current status of new RAN charging station near Yosemite National Park

Tioga Pass has been closed of late so the Rivian has not made the trip. My Kia EV6 GT-L has used the EA station at Buck Meadows on HWY 120. (There are some Tesla transformer boxes there but no chargers installed. They have been there for several years. Perhaps insufficient supply for two...
  16. Gear Guard streaming coming Q3 2024

Yes. There is a market - like it or don't. The "excuse" from the manufacturer is that it is too complicated and costly to supply in an EV vehicle because of the electronic interference. If Kia, Hyundai, and Ford can figure it out, why can't a $90K vehicle? If you don't want it, don't turn it on.
  17. Gear Guard streaming coming Q3 2024

That's the problem. It's waaaay over there to the far right. So it exists. Why can't we have it front and center?
