That sucks, but thanks for the great content while it lasted.

Did they say what the penalty for leaving it up was? I'm guessing you didn't make the decision in a vacuum, but just curious if this was a "stop or we'll sue" or a "stop or we'll say stop again" kind of situation.

Which I'm slowly working on. I'm more busy keeping my team motivated during a government shutdown and getting ready to not get paid next week... Again.

For those on the official Rivian corporate shit list, how did they contact you? Via forum DM or a 1984-like message on your center display?

Email to the email/name on my partner portal account, which is completely separate from email/name I use for here and my actual Rivian. I don't know if I slipped up and had something in an image that linked the two, or if they did some backdoor image info/IP/post source with Admin, but they figured me out.

I've been hesitant to put all this in the open, but screw it, some Rivian employee spent enough time to sleuth me out, so they already know all my info. I'd be happy to grab a coffee with said 🐀, er, employee and have a real life chat. You know where I live, you know my phone number, you know where my truck is and GPS history for where I work and spend free time. Come on by, let's chat.

Ya my biggest problem with Rivian is the right to repair side of things. It one reason I never went Tesla because of that and was hoping Rivian would be different.

I think you did the right thing by shining some sunlight on this. It's BS and Rivian needs to know that many of their biggest fans are annoyed with the secrecy and unwillingness to allow people to DIY virtually anything on their vehicles.

My hope has been that by the time many G1s were getting to the end of warranty, Rivian would have a solution for this, but no - here we are talking about them shutting down any small amount of assistance you were providing...

This is how I feel about it, Rivian

I generally think RJ is a smart strategist, but this action looks like self-inflicted pain to me....

Maybe Rivian's new Interim Chief Marketing Officer can either fix this, or offer a reasonable explanation of why this information must be held so tightly.

Thanks, @Riviot, for your hard work on behalf of the Rivian community!

So dumb of Rivian. there is no service centers between Houston and Atlanta. Provide a little DIY to those in the service desert. Mobile service has been nice but doing things on my own is also nice

In order to provide traceability to protect IP, they almost always embed artifacts that can't be seen with the naked eye but can be seen by software. Very common in DRM/DLP scanarios.

As is the case with most things, one asshole ruins it for everyone. I remember the days of the Chilton manual, and you can still get the crash book for most vehicles. It's absolutely stupid that Rivian is so upset with people trying to fix their own cars, but I guess they want to burn cash and increase wait times.

I was going to try to fix the clip on my front bumper that's out from the recall service I had last week, but since Rivian is so opposed to us fixing our own cars I think I'll file a service ticket instead so they can waste more money sending someone out here.

Stuff like this makes me not want to keep this car outside the warranty period, and if that's going to be the case, I might not buy another one.
I mean, technically access to the service manual is similar in price to the extended warranty I've seen costed out.

It's trivial for them to correlate his access to his postings without that.

That sucks. I can see why they don't want it out there. Aceess to the manuals was one of the reasons I was planning on keeping it long term, now I might just have to rethink it and move on as I prefer to DIY vs waiting months for a service appointment.

The inability to do many of my own repairs and a lack of 3rd party repair shops is a big reason why I left Tesla. I guess Rivian's next. Back to Honda, I guess.

This does hurt my faith in long term ownership for sure. Not that Rivian cares about the second, third, or later sale, in fact they'd rather you trash yours and buy a new one. You know, by far the most economical and ecological solution.

I have no interest in being tied to a Rivian service center for any and all repairs. I certainly wouldn't buy a new one as a solution to my slightly used Rivian needing service that they passively advertised as a 200k mile vehicle with the 175k battery warranty.
