400 trip across KS/MO. Starting temp of 15F ended at 39F, with typical Kansas wind. Drove 68 mph on 20’s

averaged… 1.64 mi/kwh

Seems… not great. Even for the cold and wind. But maybe it’s just what to expect.

On the positives, after two days of driving from DC I have yet to have a single issue with Electrify America stations not working well (knocking on every last piece of wood in the truck I can find

Being you averaged 68mph I am guessing on the highway you were going >70mph, maybe 75mph.

On the 20s at that speed with wind and cold this number doesn't surprise me at all. Looks like you are also dealing with the bug in your energy reported (400/125 != 1.68). On the highway above 70 even in summer you would be looking at 1.8-1.9mi/kWh.

That is pretty low. My data on the 21" road tires in conserve mode is quite a bit better. My average speed on these trips is 54 mph. That's "average" speed. Half the trip on interstate, half on state highways.

On the interstate it is 70 mph on cruse control. On state highways it's 55 with multiple slow downs through small towns. If you are doing 80 mph instead of 70 that has a very big impact.

For comparison.. We picked up our R1T in Normal, IL last week and drove it back to DC. 20” AT tires.

The truck had 23 miles at the factory, so it took a bit to learn the range and for the truck to average things out. Wednesday the weather was cold, but dry. Thursday we drove through heavy rain and snow. Door to door we did 781 miles and we averaged 1.78 mi/kWh. The last leg we were just under 2. We used a mix of conserve mode and all purpose.

I think OP's data is consistent with your curve right? If you take your 2.2 mi/kWh at 20F then subtract 0.33 (-15% for 20" ATs) and then 0.2 (~10% for AP vs Conserve) gets you to around 1.7 mi/kWh.

For comparison, I did a 235 mile trip yesterday in Illinois. First leg of ~80 miles was 2 lane highways and country roads. The remainder was interstates, at about 75-77 mph. Was hoping to make the whole trip with no charging stops but ended up being a few miles short and had to pop into Chase EVgo in Oakbrook Terrace IL (Chicago area folks this is a great location, restaurants available and I was charging at 215kwh, added 100 miles in 19 minutes even though I only needed about 10 miles to make it home. ). Temperature was 23 degrees most of the trip. First leg was efficiency of right around 2. The rest was 1.6 to 1.8. I charged right before I left to try and raise the battery temp. Overall pretty happy. Did a head to head comparison of the Rivian nav to a Google maps efficient route. They were very different, the Google maps plan had better arrival times by about 2 or 3 minutes. Abrp was off by about 10%, it did not predict a charge.
R1T, 22 inch wheels, conserve mode, climate set at 67, heated seats on at lowest level, I had a full charge, half a pack of cigarettes, it was dark and I was wearing sunglasses:)

Here are the stats I guess the total energy Calc is inaccurate.

The way I look at it: 400 miles and 125 kWh equals, you went 400 miles on a tank of electrons.

And the few times I've driven across Kansas it feels like all the energy is sucked out of me...so maybe it's the same with the Rivian. :)

I'd say pretty standard in that cold. I'm based in Kansas City and (especially with the 20" A/Ts) rarely get above 1.8 mi/kWh on the highway even in the summer. Recently with the -20° days I've seen as low as 1.1. the whole experience is consistent with my prior two cars (Tesla S & 3)... Just multiplied to truck level efficiencies ?

i was spoiled by my bolt...i could get 4.5 to 5 mi/kWh in the city with the L setting (one pedal driving).
Now highway driving was nothing near that...and cold did have a big hit too...but it loved that city driving.

Oof On I70 I have a hard time going slower than 80 going through the boring state of Kansas. With efficiency down but speed increased, what would get you through the state faster?! :)
