Rivian R1T R1S 12V Questions 20250409_134707

I got the 100Ah solid state lithium battery and DC-DC charger installed and working great so far. I got a deal from Renogy and they gave me a shunt and battery monitor which is pretty convenient as to see the state of the battery without the app. I'll report back if I run into any issues down the road 🤞

How are you charging the battery? Wired directly to 12v or some other way?

Yes, the DC-DC converter (pictured upper left) charges the lithium battery using the Rivian's existing 12V lead battery as the power source.

OP, how is the aux battery setup working several months later?

I picked a Gen2 R1T a few weeks ago and I am already planning on subwoofer upgrade for mine: Current thought is a single JL 13TW5v2 driven by a VX600/1i. The 13.5" sub looks like it will fit perfectly in the space.

Even at 600W RMS I think I might need to go a similar route and add an additional battery. Thanks for this detailed thread, it is really helping my plan for my upgrades.

Its been working great and since my last post I added a 115W flexible solar panel to the hood to help supplement the extra battery so I'm not drawing as much from the Rivian 12V system.

As for the 13.5 sub, thats what I had in my Tacoma and what I was trying to fit in the Rivian, but for the configuration I went with, I could only fit two JL 12TW3s. I wanted to keep the factory platic trim under the seat, but if you got rid of that lip, you might be able to fit a 13.5. Either way, I'm very happy with the sound!

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions about your build. Happy to help if I can!

Thank you all for the discussions about an extra 12v battery and DC-DC charger to power an amp and sub. I have a Gen 1 R1T with one 12v. It threw 'replace 12v' codes at about two years, @6 months after I installed a 500w amplifier and 12" subwoofer (https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/...et-market-subwoofer-dual-10.20758/post-438364)

At year three of ownership (21k miles) this month, the Service Advisor said there are 12v low voltage codes (not shown on the infotainment screen) and the battery needs to be replaced again. The SA blamed the sub and amp, and said there are other owners who had similar problems but fixed it with a capacitor or something else.

I found this post. I connected a Victron Orion XS 50a DC-DC charger (such a cool and easy to set up little unit) to an 18 Ah battery the same size and specs as the R1T 12v, set at a low charging rate.
It's only been a couple of weeks, but the power draw from the R1T is low and smooth. And the sub seems to hit harder. Will report back in a few months if I have another bricked 12v battery.
