Just installed the Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 this morning. Discount tire did inflate to 65 psi. Now, the TPMS is not working so I need to go back, but that figure is according to the paperwork. I noticed the ride was a little bit better than the Pirellis.
Did you install the 115 or 119?

I put on a set of Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 about a month ago (1300 miles) and have been very happy with them thus far. Smoother ride and quieter than the Pirelli. I saw that they have a Platinum version coming out soon but I was in dire need as mine were almost bald with 17,000 fairly easy miles and never used Conserve.

I replaced my factory tires with these after 2 blowouts. The Defenders are a really great tire for the money. They ride amazingly well and look great!

I got the same Michelin 119 being discussed - I got them at American’s Tire in Los Angeles- they inflated them to 60psi (actually called them to ask what was it supposed to be as I was used to 50…).

I’ve seen a drop in efficiency and also it seems my speedo is off by around 3mph (you know those electronic ‘you are going this speed’ signs?) it seems my speedo it high - at 70mph I appear to be going 67…

I’ve noticed a hit in efficiency though recently most of my traveling has been 80mph on i5 with a tent on the bed rack - I’m getting about 1.7 or less.

of course it would be terrible considering the circumstances, but I am now wondering two things: should I air up to 65? would that help? and I am wondering if I need to have a SC recalibrate to the new tires as I imagine the drop in speedo accuracy probably screws up the efficiency math?

Over the weekend I installed the MICHELIN DEFENDER LTX M/S2 LT275 /50 R22 119S at Discount tire, they sound much better than the Pirelli's that had 20K miles on them. My 4 tires are running at 60 PSI. I am curious what PSI's others are running on the MICHELIN DEFENDER LTX M/S2 LT275 /50 R22.

Yesterday, I had the same tires replace my OEMs They, Sullivan Tire in Worcester, MA, set the PSI to 50. But after reading this thread and others, it seems I may need to increase the PSI.

In my case I will wait until after the SC recalibrates my "T" from 21" to 22" wheels.

Hopefully others chime in with their PSI setting and results.

Most people here use 55-60 psi for LT tires that can be inflated to a maximum of 80 psi.
I’ve heard that some people believe 65 psi is too high as the ride begins to suffer (bumps and rattles). This has been addressed prob. few dozen times so I won’t get into the details…

+1 per @ksurfier. Personally I'm running between 50 and 55 (weather dependent). For me the ride gets noticeably worse when running higher than that. I would likely run the recommended higher PSI if/when I plan on towing, but until that time, I'm going to stick with the Rivian OEM recommendation.

After the recalibration I set mine to 53

What I am very happy with is the efficiency. It has been better than with the 21s! This morning I drove approximately 55 miles to the Boston Logan Airport, at a 73 mph avg. My efficiency was >2.0 for almost the whole ride. I had Izzy charging overnight, at a very slow rate.

I was not expecting the efficiency to be that good, or planning on monitoring it. So I did not notice what the battery temp was at when I left.

I’m experiencing the exact same issues after installing the 119 Michelins. Any chance you or anyone else has found a fix? After about 400 miles of highway driving, I’m avg 1.7 in addition to the speedo being 3mph off. I was running them at 50psi (per discount tire) and will for sure try 60psi, but I’m guessing that won’t change the speedo, will it?
Thanks in advance for any help!

I’ve been at 60-60psi and it seems to help. efficiency is still low but perhaps I am driving too fast ;/)

Thanks! I’ll air up and report back. Did it help with the mph? BTW, the only reason I noticed mph was because I was using Waze navigation and it showed I was going slower than what the car said. FYI, with the OEM Pirelli’s it was off -1 MPH. Car speedo vs Waze / google maps GPS.

I was comparing against “you are going too fast” digital signs.

The true cost of getting the 119 load is that it is heavier meaning a difference of 1.7 MPK vs 2.3 MPK. This is a significant reduction in range…right about 75 miles less range…a good sacrifice if towing/off-roading…so it’s best to have a 2nd set of high efficiency tires if possible.

What's that?
I just swapped out for the Continental Terrain Contact H/T yesterday. It might just be that new tire feel, but so far I am liking them much more than the Pirellis. I feel like I got a fairly decent price on them and Discount Tire did a great job swapping them out.

I reset a trip meter after getting them installed in hopes that I can get some fairly accurate efficiency information over time. Not much to speak of so far as I've only got about 20 miles on the new tires.

It’s been a while since you’ve had them on. How do you like them? Did TireRack advised you that the rating is lower on these tires?
