Edmunds Top Rated Electric Truck: Rivian R1T

Changes made to Rivian R1T electric pickup last year keep it at the top of our electric truck list. And why not? The styling is distinctive, and its stable handling and rapid acceleration can make you question whether you're driving a pickup or a performance car. In the independent Edmunds EV Range Test, a dual-motor, Max battery-equipped R1T went 390 miles on a charge, excellent range for its class. Topping it off are outstanding truck virtues, from its off-road-ready all-wheel-drive system to its 11,000-pound maximum towing capacity to the clever cargo storage area between the cab and bed.

Lightning got axed, RAM got cancelled... Not many other options outside of GM.

Nice seeing the dual motor getting some love. Even in base non performance form, the acceleration is excellent and it has plenty of power. Most people have more use for range rather than a little faster acceleration.

With the discontinuation of the Ford Lightning I guess it was a toss up between the GM EVs and Rivian so not much competition actually.

I test drove the 2026 Hummer tri SUV. It was a brief loop in suburbia and on a state highway.

i really enjoyed it. The power is plenty to make it drive like a much lighter vehicle. Handling was firm. High position on the road was offset by the low center of gravity.

it's just too big for my garage!

When I let anyone try my R1S I have them drive a little to get comfortable and then have them punch it from a stop and from an entrance ramp.

Only after they say how crazy it is do I tell them that it’s the biggest, heaviest, slowest model available (R1S Max, dual motor).

Nobody has said they wish it was faster.

@azbill does, I think
Yes, I still have mine and love it. Mine is the truck, not the SUV. They did a suspension update recently that improved the ride a lot, but if someone test drove a 26, it probably already had that improvement.

My only real takeaway here is how different Storm Blue looks in all lighting. Crazy. ;)
