My guide asked me if I had already downloaded it because I'd need it when I took delivery. Not sure if it's just because they want to walk you through the phone to car as part of delivery or if it's a mandatory part of the registration.

You kick off the configuration process via the app on your phone if I recall how it all went down. I believe the specialist texted me a link and off we went. My hypothesis is that there is no way to sign into your account via the tablet in the truck, so you have to authenticate your account via your phone and link your phone to the truck. Again, that's just a hypothesis.

I read somewhere it kills your phone battery aside from unwanted conversations it has with R1 and GOD knows what else.

Does anyone know what are the downsides of uninstalling the app after taking delivery? and the issues you may have if you change your mind and want to reinstall it?

Even with "phone as a key" turned off, it still kills my phone battery not sure if this is a fluke -note10

I have A Note10+ and the wife has a Note10. No battery issues for us at all with proximity unlock on our off.

When I took delivery, pairing with my phone was a requirement of taking delivery. As posted already, I think it’s the only way to pair vehicle with your account. No battery drain issue for me using phone as a key. Using iPhone 13 Pro Max. I don’t see any reason why deleting the app would cause any issue after the fact. The car has no reason to talk to your phone if you don’t want it to. Anything that can be done on the app can be done via the car and key fob.
