6 Seat Config with Captains Chairs

Captains chairs seem nice but we regretted getting them in our X7. They don’t make getting into the 3rd any easier and since they don’t fold flat, the usable cargo space is significantly reduced.

Just curious and comparing the iX to the Hummer EV. These two cars are on my shortlist. The Hummer seems less attainable right now though - potentially a 2024 delivery date for the SUV. If the hummer had captain chairs with like these types of recliner seats in the third row I think it would be a no-brainer for me.

Besides that you are a link spammer, the Hummer doesn't have a third row.

I agree I have captains chairs in my Ascent and would prefer a bench now that we have had it a few years. Everyone still folds the seat forward to get into the third row. I also have two kids and when we go camping and bring a friend they are in the third row which lowers cargo space a lot.

Captains chairs are nice when the grandparents are in the car with the kids but that isn't nearly as frequent.

We have had a number of explorers and had a hard time finding the bend vs the captains. I couldn't understand it and the dealer told us that everyone is obsessed with their kids being able to get in the car and walk through the cut-out center without needing to move a seat even if it was a power seat. I'm not too fond of the idea of having a seven-passenger SUV that only seats 6. We also like having the 3rd row down most of the time for whatever sports gear, groceries, and other stuff we are hauling any given day. I think if I couldn't "convince" my three kids to behave in the center row and needed the third row I would have to go get an expedition or suburban that allow me the third row and the extended cargo area at the same time.

Really wish Rivian would offer a 6 seat configuration with middle row captains chairs. I hate bench middle row seats and having to move them for people to access 3rd row.

From what I’ve seen, this is about the only complaint I have with R1S.

Agree, if they offered captain's chairs we would consider replacing our other SUV with a R1S!

I'm still waiting to see what the R1S looks like with both rear rows of seats removed.

Look - I understand that captains chairs are great, but just give up on being cool and buy a van. I have a Pacifica Limited and it both sucks the life out of me AND is the greatest vehicle ever all at the same time. Sometimes being cool isn't worth it.
