About a month and a half ago I scheduled service. My appointment number was approximately 700,000. I scheduled another one today (new metallic whirring sound from wheels) and was assigned number 815,000 (roughly). That’s a lot of appointments for not that many cars.
More importantly is what the appointments are for. It includes tire rotation and all that jazz.

Interesting, nobody has six-digit-long appointment numbers (and invoice numbers) but me. Why am I special?

Umm, rhetorical question… :) They do make me look dumb.

Trying to create a false narrative? That's not how most customer-facing numbers work. That doesn't even pass the "smell test" - it would imply an average of 10 service visits per vehicle. Clearly wrong.
I'm at 9 so far..... Would be more if I was anywhere close to a service center, have a few issues pending that I live with, need alignment, I have to manually force the powered tonneau to open each time, AC is working , but weak, overdue on recommended checkups (recommended every 7500 miles), etc. They have been to my house several times for recalls....

In more than two years. You have an early build. The median age of Rivians on the road is only about 1 year (25k in 2022, 57k in 2023, maybe 25k so far in 2024, so the midpoint is about 1 year ago). 10 appointments, on average, over a span of 1 year is not really believable, especially when everyone complains about appointments being 4 months out and how Rivian kept their vehicle for 6 weeks etc.

Of course, some individuals will have many more services than average, and some will have many fewer than average. But the total of >815,000 service appointments is not believable from the outset.

It seems the OP is off by a factor of ten. I have an appointment scheduled for 9/10 in the 80000 range.

Sure, 815,000 is high, I don't see it as wildly inconcievable. Doesn't look like the appointment number is meaningful to us. Mine are pretty random.

If an appointment = any action that requires some physical action by a rivian tech as a fix or customer visit, after the truck leaves the factory, I'd estimate the number was in the 250k-750k range, big range, but just a rangefinding guesstimate. Just looking at the number of vehicles made the last 2 1/2 years or so, the recalls, the relatively high level of issues to fix compared to more established vehicles, 2.5 to 7.5 / vehicle - year of life seems reasonable to me. There are some repairs that happen after the vehicle gets to the SC, but before delivery, thats probably not trivial. I know mine went out for paint correction before delivery, so I did not see any repair record.

I've probably had 30-80 encounters with Service -- calls I placed to them, calls they placed to me, appointments made, appointments changed -- since taking delivery of our Rivians in February and May 2024.

If every encounter gets its own number, the numbers will get very high -- without saying anything negative about the cars. It says more about how carefully I attend to our cars than it does about how good the vehicles are.

I'm glad we bought our Rivians when we did.

Best wishes!

Most will agree that the SCs are overloaded. I wish they would find a way to separate the very important appointments from the not so. Take for example my very important ones-window trim repair and Tyre kit install (j/k).

They also need to utilize the mobile service better. My radiator leak part was not ordered until the truck was at the SC, so they could confirm I guess. The mobile service lives 1 hour from me, SC is 3.5 hours away. Took two weeks because of broken parts arriving. I think it is hard to determine who has what for importance and keep people happy.
