A2Z versus the Rivian nav’s adapter

Hello all.
Does anyone have information on which adapter is better (if the case) for the A2z versus the Rivian supplied nacs adapter?
I have both.

Can't tell you which is better but the A2Z had an issue with newer Tesla Superchargers. I found out, this summer, after failing to charge at a few SCs, but the Rivian one worked. When I contacted them they, immediately, sent me an updated version free of charge. So far, it's worked flawlessly. They even let me keep the old one which had worked on the older SCs.

Given the choice, I do prefer the A2Z over the Rivian just because I find it easier to manipulate. The Rivian's unlock is kind of awkward to reach. The A2Z also feels more solid in your hand. But, its not officially sanctioned by Rivian or Tesla, whereas the Rivian on is. So that may factor into your decision.

Haven’t had an issue traveling and using my Rivian adapter. Has always worked.

As far as I know, @Billofaustin2, both of those NACS-to-CCS1 DC adapters do the job really well.

I have more trust that Rivian will cover you if their adapter damages vehicle, charger, or network.

I have less trust that A2Z will cover you if their adapter causes ham.

If you didn't have one and if you were contemplating purchase, I would point out that the A2Z adapter is designed in Canada and made in China. Rivian's adapter is made by Tesla in Buffalo NY.

I have both. Bought an A2Z and eventually got a free adapter from Rivian. I like the form factor of the A2Z better. I find it a bit easier to deal with. Both have worked fine.

Depends on what you define as criteria for "better".

A2Z's NACS DC to CCS1 Typhoon Pro adapter is far more robust in choice of materials. It was engineered and tested to meet UL2252 specs, though not yet certified—"UL2252 certification in progress - passed all tests, release of certificate soon". Many have used this adapter with no issues. And, A2Z's customer service is top-tier.

The one supplied by Rivian is made by Tesla. The outer casing feels like hard brittle plastic. It is significantly lighter. It is also not UL2252 certified. But it is the only one that has approval from Rivian and Tesla (for charging Rivian vehicles at Superchargers).

Tesla's policy, an approved adapter is:
1. One that is theirs—sold directly by Tesla, or issued or sold by a NACS Partner OEM
2. Or, one that is approved by a NACS Partner OEM, for use with vehicles made by the corresponding OEM (example, Ford's modified version of Lectron's Vortex, not the same as one Lectron sells).

Neither Rivian nor Tesla have release statements on whether UL certification will change their current policies. I own both adapters. One I keep as back up because I know the other can take abuse of being dropped by my sometimes clumsy hands.

These are the facts. You decide which is better for you.

Rivian's adapter is made by Tesla. It was once believed to be made in Buffalo, NY. However, Rivian's Gear Shop page indicates that it is imported. And guess what country Tesla has a factory in. China.

I prefer the A2Z vs the Rivian one, just easier to use and more robust feeling. It also meets the same standards as the Rivian (Tesla provided) adapter.

There was a story of an A2Z adapter being the cause of a EV charger fire in Vancouver a few months ago, however, that story was inaccurate and the charger was actually found to be at fault and surged power far above the vehicle's request.

A2Z also really stands behind the quality of their adapters post sale which is huge these days.
