I'm deciding on what type of wall charger to get installed. I have a 2025 gen2 R1T - native J1772/CCS1 charge port. Given the trend toward NACS, I'm inclined to buy the newest Rivian NACS wall charger and use my A2Z NACS to J1772 adapter (further supported by the fact the Rivian J1772 wall charger says "coming soon" on the Rivian gear site). Does this make sense? Is it more convenient/efficient keeping everything Rivian, so that truck and charger can update and "communicate" more efficiently, or is this less important? I think my next option would be the Tesla Universal Wall Charger, which can do either J1772 or NACS. How are other people approaching this? Thanks!

There is no need to get a Rivian-branded/made EVSE. Anything will deliver electrons to your truck.

I like to keep these kinds of things as simple as possible (and let the truck do all the time of use, charging schedule stuff), so I went with a Grizzl-e Classic. But really all of their EVSEs are well made and tough - and can be as technologically simple or complicated as desired.

Wall chargers are basically a commodity item. The only reason IMO to get a Rivian branded one is for when/if you have charging problems - then it will be much easier to deal with one company. And if you can get it for a good price (a lot of people got these for cheap or free at times) then it's a good choice.

Check your local power company and city/state for incentives, you might be able to get a charger + installation at a significant discount for one of their preferred brands.

Some have fancy features which you might want, for example power sharing if you are going to install two chargers. Or features which might be useful if you're interesting with solar, etc

As long as you stay away from generic no-name cheap chargers, and get an electrician to install it correctly, any choice you make will work - it's not a complicated device. I do think it makes sense to plan for the future and choose a charger with a NACS connector.

While Rivian makes an excellent vehicle, their charger is crappy. I have two Rivian chargers, bought them both when I purcahsed my R1T, but I would probably buy a Juicebox or Tesla if I had to do it over.

I agree with the above…not necessary to stay with Rivian. I’d get the cheapest.

I did the whole paralysis via analysis when it came to my charger and ended up going with EVIQO charger that I was going to hardwire and didn’t. Glad I didn’t because if something happens with the charger, I just have to unplug and plug in another one.

The 3 I narrowed it down to was Grizzl-e, Tesla and EVIQO. I needed up with it because it was the cheapest.
