I live in snowy SW Colorado and have used x-ice on a number of vehicles including my 2016 MX Just last winter I put the new version of x-ice on the MX and very impressed with traction and good range. I believe the x-ice has a compatible size for 22 wheels assuming you have 22. (3PMSF 275 50/ 22 XL X-ice). I am unaware if the weight rating for 2025 R1S has changed May depend on your battery size? Enjoy your R1S! Since your vin is over 1000 units after mine I hope Rivian fixed the HVAC issue before your manufacture. Good Luck!So far the AC has been working well, my spouse was impressed at how cool it felt from the vents. I have noticed the cooling fan seems to noticeably ramp up when slowing down and pretty much only operates at full speed when stopped. Surprisingly, the heat pump noise its self is pretty minimal, only audible over the cooling fan when first getting in the vehicle after heat soaking in the sun or cranking the temperature to Lo. My VIN is 48558, so maybe not as early as I thought?
I have been looking into getting a set of dedicated winter tires for the R1S. Had a set of X-ICE on my Model S in the past and was quite impressed with their performance. Have you found an option that will keep the 34" outer diameter or will it need to be 33"?
How would you know the AC is having issues? Mines cool but I wouldn't say cold.Glad everything meets your expectations. I assume the AC works just fine. There have been reports of AC issues with early 2025 vins. My 2025 R1S DMax delivery was delayed initially due to dynamic roof supply issues and then days before deliver since Rivian will be replacing my HVAC unit. My vin is 47365. If you don't mind what is your vin.
Like you I see the R1S as my backcountry and snow vehicle - so new x-ice will be added in the Fall.
Some reports of AC not producing cold temps and simply blowing warm air. Suggest searching for HVAC or AC issues to find the details. If only cool you might schedule an appt for a checkup? How would you know the AC is having issues? Mines cool but I wouldn't say cold.
Finally had a chance to do a loop up and down I-5. Looks like it was averaging about 2.34mi/kWh in Standard ride height at 70mph. There was some traffic but speed was fairly consistent on both legs. I expect the number to be a little lower on a perfectly open road but possibly offset some by using Low ride height.Huge congrats!
If you don't mind sharing, what is the efficiency of the AT Dual Max on the freeway?
@R1Thor - Pennsylvania does have some options like this in the state forests (not to be confused with the state parks). I've hiked past a number of them while backpacking in the state forests north of Williamsport. Here are a couple of links:I'm always jealous of the midwestern and western states being able to overland and enjoy dispersed camping.
If there are opportunities like that out this way, I have had serious trouble finding them and am not brave enough to just start exploring land near me to find out I'm trespassing...
Finding a formal campground and paying for the experience of being adjacent to people that party late isn't my idea of a great time... :/
Great shots!
