Rivian must have skipped over you. They made the announcement this Fall that they werenāt going to send out adapters to 2nd owners going forward. You should have gotten one. My R1T had almost 21K miles on it when I bought it in a private sale in May ā23 and on May 2, 2024 I received an adapter in one of the first batches mailed out.
I just purchased a used 2025 R1S. The original owner took delivery on July 30. He had yet to receive his NACS adapter when I purchased the vehicle on Nov 19. I called Rivian after completing the xfer of ownership. They said only the original owner was eligible to receive the āfreeā NACS adaptor. They said as the second owner I would need to purchase one from their gear shop. I sent them a complaint email stating their inability to deliver the adapter to all the original owners on time is not anyoneās problem but theirs. Had they had adequate inventory and shipped them on time, I wouldāve received the adapter when I purchased the vehicle. Now as a second owner, Iām being penalized and must pay over $200 if I want the adapter that shouldāve come with the vehicle. I also suggested the adapter upgrade should track with the VIN and not the owners. I asked them to reconsider. Their reply was empathetic, but they did not change their position. My only hope now is they send it to the original owner and the original owner notifies the dealership I purchased my R1s through. I have little hope in that actually happening. Very unfortunate.Purchased my 23 R1T, 24XXX VIN back in July as pre-owned. Emailed Customer service about ownership transferring and requested the opt-in for the Tesla adapter. Received the standard "shipped in order of original delivery but we will contact you". Here we are in December, I've sent a 2nd email asking for an update but again get the standard answer. This time they include "look out for a shipping address confirmation email".
Just wanting to know: Has anyone who purchased a pre-owned R1 received the address confirmation/shipping message for their adapter?
I don't plan to use it all the time, but it would be a nice tool to have.
Rivian knows they had a mess on their hands and couldnāt tell who got what so they decided to throw their hands up and drop it in the Gearstore. On 10/24 is when it was put into the store based on Riviantrakrās site. I canāt find the email or announcement from Rivian anymore about who gets it. I probably deleted it since I didnāt care since I already had the adapter.Do you have a link for an official source on this? I tried looking, but my GoogleFu is failing me.
FWIW: I thought the same. However, my neighbor who's in the process of procuring his 2nd used Rivian was told by multiple Rivian people (when trying to escalate the inquiry) that he will NOT be getting a 'free' DCFC Adapter for their newest used procurement. FWIW: He *did* actually receive his adapter for his first used vehicle before I even received mine (though he purchased it much later), only because his VIN is a year newer than my own, and that's the order they're rolling with.
FWIW: it's also verily unlikely that the previous owner of the R1S he's acquiring received the DCFC--it's pretty darn new (high VIN, 2024 MY) and a Dual Max to give you an idea of timeline. He did ask about that as well, given if the previous owner had received it, he'd have expected they provided it during the trade. Rivian claims they did not, but also double down that they're not giving them out 1:1 for every vehicle they've sold. Just new to new owners moving forward (from some arbitrary date).
Just as a follow up;Received the opt-in email the first week of October. Nothing since then.
