Has anyone taken their R1T off road with the 22” wheels?

I would like to try it, nothing crazy, but I’m worry that the wheel will get trash.

People seem to have taken the 22s off roading in some definitely hairy situations. Personally would feel uncomfortable about the lack of sidewalls, but the car seems capable

I did many times in the first 12k however I felt like I was pushing my luck and have changed to 20s. Make sure you have a spare just in case.

I have set of dark 22 that I took on packed gravel - didn’t air down. There were definitely marks all the way up the side wall. That was my single test run in 22”. I now have set of 20” with stock ATs. Have been doing some 3-5 rock crawling and have some decent rim rash. Basically the stock wheel/tire combos provide very little rim protection.

Might consider one of the $300 rim options with set of inexpensive AT tires. You could build a set of 5 for $3000. Sounds like a lot, but better than trashing the 22s. I would have gone this route had they been available 6 months ago. I spent about $4700 on 5 OEM ATs. My 22” are saved for the off season.

Inadvertently did some gentle dirt/rock/sand/mud last month at 46-47 psi on my way to a campground. Was watching expectantly for a blowout, particularly in the areas with jaggy rocks. No need for the air compressor this time. ?

I've done some light offroading with the 22's in Crested Butte, CO up by the 401 trail and also Doctor Park/Almont area. They did fine but definately found myself wishing I had more A/T style tires. That said, I do 99% of my driving on the road - I wouldn't go seeking out these types of trails often if I had the 22's.

Yep. 22" Darks. I was super impressed, the truck ate up every trail I went up with no issues. Last run of the day got me tho... sliced rear tire from rim to tread... luckily had a full size spare then decided it was time to go home... LOL. Got quite a bit of rim rash as well, but had the most fun ever. #noregerts

I did, but nothing really crazy. Most 4 wheel drive vehicles with enough clearance could make it through here. Some rocky sections you could avoid.

I also took it easier since I didn't want to get any scratches/rock chips on my brand new 22s. I picked up a set of the Ram 1500 wheels and I'm waiting on some all terrains which I can use for occasional off roading and going to the ski resorts.

This was Maple Springs Truck Trail, Southern California. I didn't go all the way up since I had the family in there and it already took 45 minutes and I felt they were getting bored.

22's are pretty shit if it's a little muddy but decent off road otherwise IMO. I still ended up swapping to 20" wheels and tires for stuff like this.

Is it the 22" wheels that are bad? Or that the tires mounted on those 22" wheels weren't suited well enough for the terrain? The road tires will definitely not do well in anything muddy.

There are available 22" all terrain tires which are pretty capable. Although I'd still prefer going to something with more sidewall.

Sidewall height is definitely a big concern if you need both float for soft surfaces and strength for sharp obstacles. This was with my tires slightly under what Rivian recommends:

Didn't actually pinch them but it was pretty close.
