I am reading this thread at a campsite :) where I am discovering that the “fixed” loose air compressor I had them come out and service in ~February - reported loose at delivery in December - is once again loose. Plus I cannot figure out how yo disconnect the hose from the air compressor. Sigh.

@OutdorzyWA sigh for sure. I've had 3 service calls since taking possession end of January (although one was to have a spare tire mounted). They'll be coming again to help with the air compressor and also for the recall on the head lights. Love the vehicle, though it seems they have lots of little bugs to work out. Hope you get your air compressor hose resolved soon!

Sounds like my experience on my R1S (June 2023). Have to pull the fitting back while pushing the hose on very hard so the fitting will "click" on. I bought a different hose and fitting from Home Depot that clips on much easier. Also, the entire air compressor is loose in its plastic housing.
Can you specify the brand of hose you bought at HD? Other than a different hose, is there a solution this issue that doesn’t involve service visit?

What exactly is the problem? Are you using the factory hose correctly? i.e. pull collar on chuck back then insert spigot firmly into chuck and then letting go of the collar?

Most common issue is the compressor being mounted just slightly too far from the interior trim panel and not allowing the chuck be fitted on the spigot far enough for the rib on the spigot to engage the quick release locking cam in the chuck. If you are still under warranty, this should be addressed by Service. If you choose not to exercise that right, you can try enlarging the hole around the spigot.

As for the hose, I recommend a coiled one. They are much more compact and convenient than the factory hose. You can find this at many places, not just HD. Harbor Freight, Amazon, etc.. Most of these come with one female and one male chuck, or none at all. You want female chucks at both ends. Proper name for the chucks is Milton-M 1/4 NPT.

This $20 HF kit has everything you need and then some: https://www.harborfreight.com/premium-air-compressor-accessory-kit-20-piece-57621.html

2+ years and no issues. Provided hose attaches to the vehicle outlet w/o any issues. I do have to make sure the rear mat doesn't get in the way otherwise I can't get the hose to straighten and attach properly.

The air pump/hose are great. I'm able to quickly inflate all the cars at our home very quickly.

+1 putting away the hose. I stopped trying to put in back in the bag.

Replace it with a coiled hose and you won’t have to deal with that. Plus, they’re cheap. Keep the Rivian hose in the garage/shop. Rivian hose is 20’. A coiled 25’ takes up about the same space.

Does anyone else's air compressor cycle on and off all the time?

It is definitely NOT related to overheating as I heard that can happen. It happens immediately after turning it on. Seems related to how perfectly straight the hose sits. If it angles even an inch the wrong way, it stops and I have to wiggle the hose.

I've used it maybe 5 times in the last 3 years.

Never experienced this. Then again, after using the factory hose once, I immediately replaced with a coiled one.

Cheap solution: 25’ coiled hose. If you want fancy, soonishev.com has the Apex Designs hose and CNC hose reel.

Keep in mind that there are two types of air chuck connections. Automotive and industrial. They aren't often compatible. There are universal connectors. They often leak.

I find coiled hoses take to much storage space though I guess tangling isn't quite as much issue. Also instead of buying 3/8" or 1/2" full size hose, you can buy smaller 1/4" that is longer for the same amount of storage space while not being coiled. Fine for airing up.

The Rivian is nice with the rear compressor that reaches a trailer. My other tow vehicle has the compressor chuck at the front bumper so a long hose is needed.

This is by design. It stops periodically to check the pressure while inflating. Remember, this is an inflator, not a compressor and is not designed to run continuously.

Already have one and it's stored in the bag hence the OEM hose in the storage area. Maybe I didn't get the right coiled hose, but it was the one that was recommended here a while ago. It's not as robust as the Rivian hose and it doesn't always stop at the desired psi i.e. I need to manually stop it or it'll overinflate vs OEM hose stopping at the inputted psi.

There's a thread out there about this very issue! A few of us have experienced it and discovered that after each tire, you need to re-set and "re-confirm" the target PSI, you can't just hit "go" again and expect it to stop. I think it's a dumb design, but it's apparently "intentional."

Smaller diameter and there are reinforced versions. Not something you leave on the ground to get run over. The compressor not stopping at desired psi is just what it does. Not because of the hose.
