Anyone transported a sliding glass door?

I have a new sliding glass door to pick up this weekend. Has anyone transported one in the bed of their R1T and care to share how it went?

These large doors are supposed to be transported upright, else risking damage to the glass. I’ve seen folks build a temporary structure out of framing lumber to hold it upright and then ratchet strap it down.

I don’t need to reinvent the wheel so wondering if anyone has done this successfully and has pictures to share how you did it.

I may just rent a 5x7 U-Haul trailer for $15 instead - lower deck height and more options to build a frame to hold the door upright.

Just like you suggested, I built an A frame temp structure and transported a large sliding glass door about 60 miles. Take it slow and plan out your route ahead of time.

I haven't but feel your pain after transporting some large TVs.
Careful with potholes and the tailgate flipping up if you don't have a long bottom on your a frame

I have transported some long thin stone pieces while crossing my fingers without any bracing. The air suspension smoothed things out much better than a normal pickup.

Rent the trailer. It will be so much easier to secure it upright.

Rent the trailer then strap the door to the side wall. Waaay easier. But, I would watch for the potholes. Those trailers have zero suspension - very rough ride.

Ugh, I actually strapped it to the tire wheel well.
I know, could have been bad if it started to slide off.
I also put some rubber strips along the side of the bed to help it from sliding.
Went slow and had to pull off a couple times to let people go by and checked the straps.

Oh, I had concerns. But I got the cheapest slider because I'm putting it into a cargo trailer conversion. It was around $400 and Menards wanted $200 for delivery. If you get a nice one, I'd definitely suggest renting a flatbed to haul it.

Pretty sure that's not the only advice on the internet that @StuGoss disregarded for this trip. But he made it and we've all probably done worse from time to time

I appreciate all the advice. I picked up the door today. Rather than building a frame I used some recently handed-down metal shelves to help hold it upright.

Shelves were screwed together at the front of the bed and strapped 4 ways. Then two straps over the top of the door.

Everything worked great. No issues.

Wow! Ive never done that and dont have the balls to ever but it looks very cool.

It was worth every penny of the $80 I spent to have mine delivered by two kind gentlemen directly to the outdoor office I was building in the back yard.
